Finn Jones shares costume ideas for a potential return to the MCU as Iron Fist. Before Marvel Studios started producing original shows on Disney+, Marvel TV was the original division that ran multiple live-action shows set in the MCU. From ABC to Netflix, Hulu, and Freeform, Marvel TV was responsible for several successful shows, including Agents of SHIELD, Daredevil, Runaways, and most of The Defenders franchise. Once Kevin Feige became Marvel Entertainment's CCO, the Marvel TV division was absorbed into his overall responsibilities.

One of the Marvel TV dramas that had a short and mixed run was Iron Fist, which was one of the series that led into The Defenders. Starring Jones as Danny Rand, Iron Fist season 1 was critically panned, as it was considered the weakest Defenders-related show when compared to Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. Despite mixed reception, Iron Fist was renewed for season 2, which improved the show to some degree. However, once Disney and Netflix's partnership began to wind down, the latter canceled Iron Fist after only two seasons.

While Jones hasn't reprised his Iron Fist character since the cancelation, the actor has some ideas in mind for costumes if he ever returns to the MCU as Danny. In a new interview with ComicBook.com, Jones opens up on potential Iron Fist suits while also reflecting on what he wore on the Netflix shows. Jones preferred Danny's street-stylized suit on The Defenders, praising its "gritty and urban" look. Despite being open to wearing a more comic-accurate version, it would depend on what type of MCU project Danny would take part in, sharing the following:

I'd like to try it on, but I don't know if that's something that would really resonate that well. I like the mask as well, the mask that we had in those K'un-Lun flashbacks. I thought that was really cool. But yeah, something a bit more gritty and urban, I think that feels right. I did kind of like The Defenders style costume, where it was like the hoodie and the mask and the jacket, that felt very kind of brawlerish, and that made sense for that world. I mean, it all depends on the tone of the show, right? I did really enjoy the kind of Orson Randall look. I thought that in those Netflix shows, that made the most sense. It kind of felt almost like a kind of cowboy, western kind of version. It was kind of western cowboy meets Matrix. And I think that's a really interesting space for the Iron Fist to live in that feels grounded.

Iron Fist Return May Be Inevitable Because Of Daredevil: Born Again

Iron Fist in Luke Cage Season 2

While Feige and Marvel Studios have not revealed any official plans for Iron Fist, his return may be inevitable. Despite being set in the MCU, the Marvel TV shows weren't referenced in the films, while the series would acknowledge various movie events. However, Phase 4 changed that when Charlie Cox's Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin returned in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye, respectively. Not only will they appear in Echo, but they will star in Daredevil: Born Again, which is the first time Marvel Studios has given a big project to characters from the Marvel TV era. With rumblings about Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones potentially coming back to the MCU, it wouldn't be shocking if Jones' Iron Fist gets a similar opportunity in the future.

The only thing that may prevent Jones from reprising his role as Iron Fist is the reception of his Netflix show. One of the main Iron Fist critiques was Jones' performance as the titular hero, partially due to his delivery of the action scenes. According to one of the show's stunt coordinators, Jones refused to do any training during Iron Fist season 1, which became evident when the series debuted on Netflix. While Marvel Studios may bring Iron Fist into the Disney+ shows or movies, there's always the chance they recast Danny and let the new actor soft reboot Jones' character. That would allow the MCU to avoid the baggage that is attached to Jones' take on the Marvel hero. For the foreseeable future, only time will tell if Jones gets to come back to the MCU as Iron Fist.
