[Warning: This post contains SPOILERS for season 1 of Iron Fist]
In an effort to help set the Netflix series' apart from the films and other MCU-related programming, each program has looked to ground its titular heroes in different ways. In almost every case this has meant nixing the comic costumes in favor of something not so flashy. Daredevil has been the exception so far, as he currently sports the full red costume, but Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have only had quick Easter eggs showing their classic comic looks.
While traditionally neither Luke or Jessica have costumes that are too ridiculous, the same cannot be said for Danny Rand's comic book outfit as Iron Fist. With season 1 now available on Netflix, there were questions of whether or not Finn Jones would sport the classic green and yellow costume. As it turns out he didn't, but that doesn't mean the Iron Fist costume didn't make an appearance, and now a behind-the-scenes photo offers curious viewers a better look.
Actor Johnny Yang was part of the scene in which the costume was revealed, and the actor has shared a photo of his time on set. Unlike the choppy, black-and-white footage seen in the episode, Yang's photo shows the full-colored version of the costume Danny didn't get around to wearing.
This was a great way to include the costume after showrunner Scott Buck confirmed Danny wouldn't be suiting up this season. The footage shows a mysterious, older Iron Fist single-handily taking down a number of Chinese soldiers seeking entry into K'un-Lun.
The footage doesn't offer a terrific look at the costume, so there's room for the series to introduce a more updated version later. With The Defenders next on Danny's plate, though, it could be a while before the character dons the classic duds he sports in the comics. So far, there's no indication that Danny will ever wear the costume, but as the Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe grows, putting on some green-and-yellow spandex might help the character stand out.
The Defenders will arrive sometime in the summer, with The Punisher coming later this year, Daredevil seasons 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, Luke Cage season 1, and Iron Fist season 1 are now available on Netflix. Premiere dates for the newest seasons of Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Luke Cage have not yet been revealed.
