Apple's iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are expected to differ in various ways, with the latter tipped to offer better hardware and software for photography and gaming. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 15 lineup later this year. The next-gen lineup is expected to include four devices, but the iPhone 15 Pro Max is rumored to be renamed the iPhone Ultra. They're expected to come with a number of common features, including the Dynamic Island and USB-C ports, but they will also have many differences between them.

An early look into iOS 17 reveals that the iPhone 15 Pro Max (Ultra) will have more advanced image processing and a beefier cooling system than the iPhone 15 Pro, according to a new report from prominent tipster LeaksApplePro (via HowToiSolve). The leak says that the top-end model's improved software could also be accompanied by better camera hardware, making the iPhone 15 Pro Max much better for photography than the standard Pro model. However, the report claims that the advanced software will allow the Pro Max to take better photos even if there aren't any changes to the camera hardware.

iPhone 15 Pro Max (Ultra) Could Be A Performance Beast

Another difference between the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max could be a "meatier cooling system" enabling the device to run cooler, even at sustained load. This could potentially allow the processor in the iPhone 15 Pro Max to be clocked higher than the chip in the regular Pro model and help it perform better while playing games and performing other processor-intensive tasks.

If the rumors turn out to be accurate, it could mean that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models will have many more differences than the largely-similar iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. While the current-gen 'Pro' smartphones only differ in screen size and battery, the next-gen models could have more palpable differences that could make the top-end model much more lucrative for gamers and power users. Considering the potential Ultra moniker that the high-end model will come with, this is the way for Apple to distinguish the flagship from the rest of the iPhone 15 lineup.

Apart from the differences between the Pro and Pro Max/Ultra models, the iOS 17 code also reportedly confirmed that all four iPhone 15 models will have the Dynamic Island. Another feature confirmed by the leaked code is that only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max (Ultra) will enjoy the full benefits of USB 3.2 speeds, even though all four devices will get USB-C ports instead of Apple's proprietary Lightning connector.
