Apple released the iPhone 14 Pro & iPhone 14 Pro in September 2022, and their display is one of the best ever seen on a smartphone. While the other two smartphones in the iPhone 14 series, i.e., iPhone 14 & iPhone 14 Plus, still have a large notch on the top, the Pro iPhones feature a pill-shaped notch called Dynamic Island that occupies much less area.

At the launch event, Apple also announced a couple of other devices, including three new Apple Watch models: Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch Ultra, and Apple Watch SE 2, and the second generation of AirPods Pro. All these devices are available to purchase from Apple's official website and authorized retailers.

The iPhone 14 Pro & iPhone 14 Pro Max come with a 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch OLED Super Retina XDR display with 460 pixels per inch. Further, both displays feature the latest Dynamic Island, a new way to interact with the phone's notch, and a ProMotion display that changes the refresh rate as per requirement. However, there is another exciting aspect of the iPhone 14 Pro's screen. As per Apple, the iPhone 14 Pro & iPhone 14 Pro Max can achieve a peak brightness of 2000 nits. Other models, like the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 13 Pro, have a peak brightness of 1200 nits.

Previously, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra had the brightest display in a smartphone. As per a display test conducted by DXOMark earlier this year, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, with 1777 cd/m2, proved to be the brightest smartphone display ever. For the uninitiated, cd/m2 reads as Candela (Si unit of luminance) per meter square, and it is equivalent to the commonly used unit 'nit.' The company even advertises a peak brightness of 1750 nits for the device. However, the iPhone 14 Pro lineup models can go even further.

Per an elaborate paper published by Display Mate, the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max can reach a peak brightness of 2,300 nits in high ambient light, which seems to be even higher than the advertised number. This makes iPhone 14 Pro & iPhone 14 Pro Max the brightest smartphone displays in the market. Fortunately, the iPhones have a responsive ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the screen's brightness based on the light in the surroundings, dropping it in darker environments and saving battery. Additionally, the ProMotion display on the iPhone 14 Pro has an adaptive refresh rate of 1Hz to 120Hz, making it even more battery efficient.
