The iPhone 13 Pro Max comes with a gorgeous 6.7-inch ProMotion display, but users might not be able to reach the top of the screen while using the device with one hand. Shortly after Apple launched its iPhone 13 series, Google launched its Pixel 6 Pro as a competitor with a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display. In spite of the increased level of competition, the iPhone 13 series remains a popular option.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max and Google Pixel 6 Pro are both top-tier premium smartphones. For those who want a smaller display, models like the regular iPhone 13 or the iPhone 13 Pro might be a better buy. Both these devices come with a 6.1-inch screen that can be more easily used with one hand. Similarly, Google also offers a standard Pixel 6 with a smaller 6.4-inch display. If an even smaller Android screen is needed, the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G comes with a 6.1-inch 120Hz AMOLED display.

The large 6.7-inch ProMotion display on the iPhone 13 Pro Max makes it perfect for watching a movie or playing games. However, there might be times when an owner needs to use one hand. Considering how large the display on the iPhone 13 Pro Max is, it might prove difficult for some users to navigate through multiple menus on the device in this way. Thankfully, Apple does provide an inbuilt one-handed mode that can be enabled at any time.

Enabling Reachability On iPhone 13 Pro Max

One-handed mode can be activated in the Accessibility section of the Settings menu on an iPhone by enabling the Reachability setting. Once enabled on an iPhone without a Home button, such as the iPhone 13 Pro Max, the user will need to swipe down on the bottom edge of the display to activate the one-handed mode. On an iPhone with a Home button, double-tapping the button will activate one-handed mode. When enabled on an iPhone 13 Pro Max, the usable portion of the screen is reduced to the bottom half of the screen, bringing navigation controls within "easy reach of your thumb." If one-handed mode is no longer required, the user can simply tap the empty half of the screen to disable it again.

There can be many situations where a one-handed mode on an iPhone 13 Pro Max will come in handy, so being aware of how to quickly enable and disable Readability can make a big difference to the overall experience. It is also useful that Apple makes this feature available across iPhone models, and not only on its larger phones. No mater whether using a phone as large as the iPhone 13 Pro Max or as small as the iPhone 13 mini, Readability mode is there to help. The only exception is the first-generation iPhone SE which doesn't support Apple's one-handed mode.
