An online survey suggests that the iPhone mini model will continue to be unpopular with buyers when Apple releases the iPhone 13 lineup in the fall. It may be that the iPhone 13 mini model will be the last of its kind, with Apple possibly choosing to focus on a new SE model in 2022. Users still have plenty to look forward to with the iPhone 13, including a potential always-on-display similar to the Apple Watch display, along with a smaller notch and new colors for the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max models.

The iPhone mini was first announced at Apple’s ‘Hi, Speed’ event in October of 2020 as part of the iPhone 12 collection. Along with 5G, it comes with an A14 Bionic processing chip and a Ceramic Shield glass screen. However, sales were reportedly disappointing right off the bat, with data from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners showing that iPhone 12 mini only accounted for six-percent of Apple sales. As for why, it seems that users are more interested in larger screen sizes that are more ideal for watching videos or scrolling through social media. Apple apparently ended up slashing iPhone 12 mini production earlier this year.

According to a survey from SellCell of over 3,000 iPhone owners and centering around interest in the iPhone 13 series, those surveyed displayed a lack of interest in the iPhone mini model. Only 7-percent of users surveyed said they would buy the iPhone 13 mini. It’s an especially dismal result when compared to the 38.2-percent level of interest in the standard iPhone 13. The users surveyed also appeared to be more interested in the 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max with 30.8-percent of respondents intending to buy that model, while 24-percent of respondents were interested in the iPhone 13 Pro. When it comes to upgrading from their current model to a new iPhone in general, 43.7-percent of users intend to graduate to an iPhone 13 when its released.

The upcoming Apple Watch Series 7 fared better with 27.3-percent of users saying they would spring for the new Apple Watch. There have been suggestions that the latest wearable from Apple will improve on its health-related features through the addition of an optical blood glucose sensor

When it comes to the actual name of the new phones, 18.3-percent of respondents are triskaidekaphobic, or afraid of the number 13, according to another recent survey. Furthermore, 74-percent said they would prefer a different name altogether. No matter what it’s called, it’s highly likely that the next iPhone series is going to be pretty successful and popular with consumers, even if the iPhone 13 mini isn't.
