With the release of iOS 16.4, Apple is bringing 31 new emojis to iPhone users. The last time Apple added new emojis to its mobile operating system was in 2022, when iOS 15.4 came out with support for Emoji 14. The most unique emoji added to iPhones with that update was the pregnant man. Now, with iOS 16.4, the company is finally adding support for Emoji 15.

iOS 16.4 beta comes with 31 new emojis based on Unicode's September 2022 recommendation list. These emojis will be available to iPhone users once the final iOS 16.4 update is released. First up, there's a new smiley emoji called the Shaking Face. It's represented by a blurry, tilted surprised face emoji with lines on either side, indicating that the face is shaking. Per Emojipedia, Shaking Face can be used to express strong emotions such as shock, fear, disbelief, and excitement.

iOS 16.4 also includes three new heart emoji shades – pink, light blue, and gray. Users can send these hearts in chat to express love and friendship. The new hearts join the existing colors, which include red, purple, green, yellow, orange, and more. Two new hand emojis are also making their debut in iOS 16.4 – the Rightwards Pushing Hand and the Leftwards Pushing Hand. When used individually, these hands represent the gesture of rejecting something or pushing it away.

Some users might find the pushing hand emoji familiar as it resembles the popular Drake Hotling Bling meme, which shows the rapper saying no by holding up his hand. Using these two emojis together, users can create a new high-five emoji. The pushing hand emojis are available in six different skin tones. The Animals & Nature, as well as the Food & Drink category, have received eight new emojis, including that of a Donkey, Moose, Goose, Wing, Jellyfish, Hyacinth, Pea Pod, and Ginger. All these emojis have both metaphorical and literal meanings and can be used in different situations and contexts.

The iOS 16.4 update also comes with a few new emojis that belong to the categories Activity, Objects, and Symbols. These include a Folding Hand Fan, Hair Pick, Flute, colorful Maracas, a wireless emoji, and an emoji that represents the Khanda symbol of the Sikh faith. iPhone users will be able to access the new emojis after they update to iOS 16.4, which is expected to be released in March.
