Invincible Season 3 Gets Update From Creator, More Walking Dead Actors Joining Universe

Cast members are already busy doing voice recordings for Invincible season 3. Robert Kirkman's acclaimed comic series became a hit animated show for Prime Video in 2021. The eight-episode first season became a big success as viewers saw Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) eventually fight his father, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). With 144 comics serving as the source material, Invincible season 1 barely scratched the surface for where Kirkman's story will go. Prime Video confirmed that it was invested in the show for the long haul by announcing that Invincible seasons 2 and 3 were greenlit the day before the season 1 finale.

There have not been many updates on Invincible season 2 and 3 in the time since, though. Kirkman has teased that major comic villains like Angstrom Levy and Conquest are coming in the next two seasons. The Invincible season 1 ending even teased several other storylines that are going to unfold. However, Prime Video has stayed clear of providing any real information on that the status of the next two seasons. More often than not, the show's official Twitter account has taken to trolling fans who are not so patiently waiting for any news on Invincible season 2.

One of Invincible's many cast members is Khary Payton, who began working with Kirkman on The Walking Dead and joined the animated superhero show as Black Samson, a member of the Guardians of the Globe. In a new interview with The Movie Dweeb, Payton talked about his involvement with Invincible and teased a bit about what is to come. He could not share much, including when the show will return, but he did confirm that Invincible season 3 dialogue is already being recorded since the cast has finished season 2. He said, "We finished season 2. We're onto season 3, but its so hard to say right now [when it is coming out]."

The positive movement on Invincible season 3 comes as questions continue to swirl about why Invincible season 2 is taking so long. Payton touched on this a bit in his interview, as he echoed previous sentiments that delays brought about by COVID and animation studios being way too busy were partially responsible. In talking about Invincible season 3, the actor did go on to mention that fans hopefully will not have to wait nearly as long for it after season 2 thanks to the early renewal and the work already being done on it.

Knowing that Invincible season 3 voice recordings are already happening should help ease some concern about the show's progress. It really seems like finishing the animation is what is holding up the second season and seeing Invincible fight Conquest. While it is unclear if Invincible season 3's animation is also already being worked on heavily, it is clear that Kirkman has the scripts and story sorted out. He has confirmed that the show will continue to make some changes to the source material, so perhaps a bigger role for Black Samson and Payton is part of that.
