The wait for Invincible season 2 continues to grow longer, as Prime Video's animated superhero show is taking a long time to return. Robert Kirkman's beloved comic became a hit animated series in 2021 when the first season of Invincible was released. Viewers watched as Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) grew into his powers and battled countless villains, leading to the confrontation between him and his father, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). The fight and everything else that happened in Invincible season 1's ending directly paved the way for a second season, but the next chapter of Mark's story has not come very quickly.

Prime Video announced that Invincible season 2 was happening the same day the first season ended. In fact, the streaming service confirmed that Kirkman's show would also return for season 3. The two-season renewal gave an expectation that Invincible season 2 would come rather quickly. However, it has been over a year since the renewal and the first season's finale. Prime Video has not provided many updates on the status of Invincible season 2 during that time, with even the show's official Twitter account opting to post vague teases of season 2's progress instead of giving a hardcore fandom concrete news.

There is no definitive reason why Invincible season 2 is taking so long. Animated shows, in general, can take more time to make than live-action shows because the animation process is more time-consuming. It also did not help that work on Invincible season 2 was being done during the pandemic, which might have slowed work on the series, including possibly delaying when actors could begin recording their dialogue. All that is known is that the cast and crew are working hard to make the show. No massive delays have been reported, which might point to the show taking its time to deliver another memorable story and help Invincible season 2 improve upon season 1.

When Invincible Season 2 Will Release

The main question in viewers' minds is when Invincible season 2 will release on Prime Video now. The first season launched on the streaming service in early 2021, with the first three episodes released at once. The show moved to a weekly release model for the rest of the season, and it is expected that Invincible season 2 will do something similar. While the series experienced great success in the early year window, Prime Video would have to wait to release Invincible season 2 until early 2023 to do the same now.

Based on the timing of Invincible season 2's announcement and the scarce updates that have been shared, it is still possible that the show will return in the back half of 2022. Prime Video does have one of the most anticipated shows of 2022 premiering in September when The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power finally arrives. It would be odd for both high-profile shows to release simultaneously, so that could mean Invincible season 2 releases in October or November 2022. If the show is not ready by that point, an early 2023 date could be more realistic.
