Invincible creator Robert Kirkman revealed in a recent fan Q&A that Angstrom Levy, one of Invincible's primary antagonists in the comics, will play a significant role in season 2 of the show. Invincible is an adult-oriented superhero animated series adapted from Image Comics' comic series of the same name. The series was released on Prime Video without too much fanfare last March, but quickly became one of the most acclaimed and talked-about shows of the year spawning numerous memes and parodies online. Steven Yeun voices the titular main character Invincible (a.k.a. Mark Grayson), while J.K. Simmons voices his father Omni-Man.

The first season largely served as an origin story for Invincible, following the teen's early days as a superhero as he comes into his own budding superpowers. Throughout the show, Mark is forced to juggle his superhero life with the day-to-day responsibilities and drama of being a high-schooler. However, despite what might initially appear to be a cliche premise, the show differentiates itself from standard superhero fare by establishing a mystery early on that forces audiences to question the motives of key characters. Invincible has already been renewed for seasons 2 and 3, which opens the door for myriad supervillains from Invincible's rogues' gallery to make an appearance; the dimension-hopping Angstrom Levy may be the next adversary in line.

In a recent Comic-Con@Home fan Q&A, series creator Robert Kirkman confirmed that Levy will be a major player in season 2. Kirkman says that "there's a lot of stuff that comes from that character" that will be adapted for the show and ultimately "make up season 2." Check out Kirkman's full statement on the matter below:

I will say we've teased Angstrom Levy coming in season 2, so that is something to get really excited about. There's a lot of stuff that comes from that character, and I guess you could kind of get a sense from watching season 1 [...] roughly how we're going to be adapting those things and how they would make up season 2. So that's some fun experiments you can do on your own to try and figure out exactly how season 2's gonna go... You'll be wrong!

Angstrom Levy talking in Invicible comics.

In the comics, Levy bears a grudge against Mark whom he blames for causing a freak accident that leaves him disfigured. Levy has the ability to travel to different dimensions, which he uses to his advantage across his many encounters with Invincible. If Levy's role in the show is even a fraction of what it is in his decade-long role in the comics, it's safe to say that he will pose a recurring threat for Mark in season 2 and possibly beyond.

It's as perfect a time as ever to introduce Angstrom Levy into the series. With Marvel and DC both beginning to venture into multiversal storytelling in their feature films, Levy's appearance in the show will feel right at home alongside them. Interdimensional storytelling can often become convoluted with lengthy exposition scenes necessary to convey complex mechanics. With blockbuster films leading the charge, hopefully season 2 of Invincible will be able to hit the ground running.
