The latest Invasion season 2 news, includes everything that's known about the sci-fi drama's release date, cast, and story details. Apple TV+ renewed the show on the eve of the release of Invasion season 1, episode 10, its season finale. Invasion was created by Simon Kinberg and David Weil, and its first season told the story of an earth-wide alien invasion from the perspective of four characters, mom Aneesha Malik (Golshifteh Farahani), Navy SEAL Trevante Cole (Shamier Anderson), JASA technician Mitsuki Yamato (Shioli Kutsuna), and schoolboy Caspar Morrow (Billy Barratt). The show followed their journeys of putting up with the alien invasion on three different continents.

Invasion season 2 news confirms that the series has been renewed for a sophomore installment, and its episodes will likely have a runtime of an average of 45–50 minutes each, just like the first season. Considering how the alien invasion was portrayed as ongoing, despite the alien beings seen killing humans and animals alike throughout season 1, and then they stopped moving all together at the same time, it can be assumed only the first part of their plan was done. Invasion season 2 will follow Aneesha, Trevante, Mitsuki, and Caspar as they try to deal with the subsequent parts of the alien’s plan to invade Earth.

Invasion Season 2 Story

The Invasion season 2 story will pick up four months after the ending of the first installment. Invasion season 1 ended with the world celebrating the presumed defeat of the aliens trying to invade the Earth, although all main characters felt the crisis had not been avoided yet. The final scenes of the Invasion season 1 finale set up season 2, as alien particles could still be seen interacting with alien bodies, and giant spaceships were spotted looming over the ocean and the Amazon rainforest.

While all four protagonists seemed to have come to terms with the fact that the critical situation was their new reality, planning their survival or enjoying the little things of perceived normality, the rest of the world clearly had not caught on. Invasion season 2's story sees a full-scale alien takeover, with whole countries being wiped out, as teased by Simon Kinberg. This will mean the sophomore installment will focus on societal issues alongside the stories of its four protagonists, and will be even more action-forward than its predecessor.

There isn't a ton of Invasion season 2 news regarding the story of the season though. Details surrounding the confirmed season 2 were initially teased by writer and executive producer Simon Kinberg at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con. Kinberg told audiences that the second installment would kick off months after season 1, during which humanity is well aware of the fact that an invasion is taking place due to countries being wiped out. All in all, Kinberg likened the next season to, "Act 2 of a movie where sh*t goes crazy." He also teased that new alien types would be introduced, ranging from "mysterious and beautiful" to outright "aggressive."

Another thing the Invasion season 2 news bring to light is the sheer scope of the second chapter. Kinberg stated that the first season of the series was basically a warmup to the alien invasion, while season 2 will be "the full-on action of the battle for Earth that I had always wanted for the show." That doesn't mean that insulated character stories will be thrown to the wayside for a more action-heavy installment, however. Kinberg promises that while big-picture storytelling is part of the mix, Invasion will continue to explore issues regarding the alien takeover on a personal level for its four main heroes.

In an interview with Collider, Kinberg also teased that he wanted to make sure the audience gets to know the aliens at the center of the story. He has plans to flesh out the alien characters over the course of multiple seasons, beginning with season two. He told Collider:

There's a lot of mystery and suspense, I suppose, in Season 1. And I think in subsequent seasons, you want to pay off that mystery, build more mystery, but start to really get a sense of the aliens as characters? What do they want? What are they doing here? How do we actually stop them? And that is fodder for some really interesting storytelling, again, filtered through the lens of really emotional characters, dealing with complex psychological stuff.
