The latest episode of Into the Badlands featured the death of another key character. In "Curse of the Red Rain", Lydia, played by Orla Brady, is the latest casualty of Pilgrim's crusade. This could have disastrous repercussions for Pilgrim (Babou Ceesay), considering that the person most affected by Lydia's death is Nathaniel Moon (Sherman Augustus), one of the greatest swordsmen in the Badlands, and a dangerous enemy for anyone to have.

Orla Brady has been a series regular on Into the Badlands since the beginning of the series. Up until now, her character was the last surviving member of Quinn's family. In Into the Badlands seasons 1 and 2, Quinn's family was one of the most important parts of the show, but this changed after season 2 with Jade's exile and the deaths of Quinn and Ryder. Some time after Quinn's fall, Lydia gained a position of power when the Widow (Emily Beecham) gave her the title of viceroy. In the time that followed, Lydia rekindled her romantic relationship with Moon.

Into the Badlands episode "Curse of the Red Rain" saw the Widow take Cressida (Lorraine Toussaint) prisoner. After Cressida revealed that Widow was pregnant, the Widow began to rethink her future as a baron, causing her to tell Lydia that she may relinquish her power to her once the conflict with Pilgrim was over. This would allow Lydia to rule the Badlands with Moon at her side, something that she's wanted for a while. However, Lydia's plan for the future is ruined when Pilgrim launches an attack on the base. Lydia is sent to execute Cressida, but she doesn't realize that Cressida has the Gift - or something that looks like it. Cressida stabs Lydia and escapes. Moments later, Lydia dies in Moon's arms.

Lydia's death is sure to have a big impact on Moon, a character whose arc in season 3 hasn't intersected much with Pilgrim's plan to take over the Badlands. Now, Moon will have all the motivation he needs to go after Pilgrim and Cressida. Moon has a reputation as one of the most skilled swordsman in all the Badlands. Though Moon was narrowly defeated by Sunny (Daniel Wu), he was able to fight the Widow to a standstill in the Into the Badlands season 3 premiere. Also, Moon's history as a ruthless assassin may come into play in the show's final two episodes.

Moon will join a growing list of powerful warriors devoted to stopping Pilgrim from achieving his goal. This list already includes Sunny, the Widow, Bajie (Nick Frost), and Nix (Ella-Rae Smith). It's possible that at this point, Pilgrim has too many enemies and not enough allies to succeed.
