Intel on Tuesday unveiled its 13th-gen Core processors, codenamed 'Raptor Lake.' In the lead-up to today's announcement, various leaks and rumors disclosed many critical aspects of the new lineup. Intel also released a few teasers about its next-gen processors, revealing more information about them. The Raptor Lake lineup is the successor to the Alder Lake chips released late last year and will be followed by the Meteor Lake processors that are expected to arrive next year.

Intel's announcement comes on the same day that AMD's new Ryzen 7000 chips went on sale after being unveiled late last month. The latest AMD lineup includes four SKUs: the Ryzen 9 7950X, the Ryzen 9 7900X, the Ryzen 7 7700X and the Ryzen 5 7600X. The top-end Ryzen 7 chip has a $699 MSRP, while the entry-level SKU has a $299 asking price. Alongside the Zen 4 CPUs, a slew of AM5 motherboards are also available from vendors like Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, ASRock, and others.

Following a series of rumors and official teasers over the past several weeks, Intel finally announced its Raptor Lake processor lineup on Tuesday. The new series includes three different processors, each of which will be available in two different variants, with and without built-in graphics. Rumors leading up to the launch suggested that there would be as many as 14 SKUs available at launch, but it isn't immediately clear when the rest of the chips will be made official.

Regarding the six available options at launch, the lineup is led by the Core i9-13900K, which features 24 cores, including eight performance cores (P-cores) and 16 efficiency cores (E-cores). The chip also has 32 threads and 68MB of combined L2 and L3 cache. In addition, it has a 5.8GHz maximum boost clock and a $589 price tag. The Core 19-13900KF that comes without integrated graphics will be available for $564.

Next are the 16-core, 24-thread Core i7-13700K (with IGP) and Core i7-13700KF (without IGP). They will come with 8 P-cores, 8 E-cores, and a 5.4GHz maximum boost clock. They will cost $409 and $384, respectively. Finally, the two 14-core, 20-thread SKUs are Core i5-13600K and Core i5-13600KF. They will pack 6 P-cores, 8 E-cores and have a maximum boost clock of 5.1GHz. They have been priced at $319 and $294, respectively.

The Core i9-13900K promises to be a beast, with Intel advertising up to 15 percent better single-threaded performance and up to 41 percent better-multithreaded performance than its Alder Lake predecessor, the Core i9-12900K. The increased performance is expected largely due to the increased clock speeds and higher thread counts. Intel also confirmed that the Raptor Lake chips would be available from Oct. 20 alongside Z790 motherboards.
