Members of the Among Us community are testing their coding and design mettle to provide new custom mods, mini-games, and game modes that adapt the classic murder mystery formula in creative new ways. Players can find a variety of these mods available on Skeld.net, the first ever private, community-created Among Us server. When players download the Skeld.net launcher and start a game this way, their location changes from their public regional server to the Skeld.net servers, and a dropdown menu allows them to select any of the available custom games hosted by others in the community. Skeld.net hosts a variety of mods, including the Among Us Zombie Mode mod and the Slender Man Mode mod.

Players who enter the Skeld.net servers and join a game can sometimes play a version that allows them to switch their character's color every 30 seconds. To increase the challenge, some versions of this mod also remove the player's name tag from above the character's head, making it extremely difficult to figure out who's who. If players are looking for a new challenge in Among Us and decide to join one of these modded games, they'll want to be sure they know how to play and how to use the color switches to their advantage. Here's how to access and play the Color Changer Mod in Among Us.

How to Install & Play the Color Changer Mod in Among Us

among us names players should not use

Players wanting to join a game in this mode will need to visit Skeld.net, download the Launcher for Windows, and install the launcher by double-clicking the downloaded file. They will need to have Among Us installed on their device and have opened the game at least once to be able to install the Launcher.

Players can launch Among Us from the Launcher, and their location will be changed from the public US servers to the skeld.net server. Once in Among Us, players can use the dropdown menu to select a lobby playing with changing colors.

While most mods for Among Us can only be installed on PC, Skeld.net also maintains an app for Android users. Players can download the Skeld.net Server Switcher app from the Google Play Store and launch Among Us from there to find a game that uses the Color Changer mod.

Among Us: 5 Best Desktop & Mobile Background Designs All Colors

In this game mode, players will be largely unidentifiable. They will not have a name above their head, and their color will change every 30 seconds to another random color option. All characters will be wearing a lab coat and an artist's beret, and they will have the stick figure pet beside them. This makes it nearly impossible for players to identify one another, and can even make it difficult for players to remember the colors they have cycled through. Players can find out their current color during emergency meetings or when a dead body has been reported by typing into the chat, as their chat box will reflect their most recent color.

The rest of the game is played the same as Among Us in classic mode. With the extra challenge of not knowing anyone's name or color, crewmates will have a more difficult time calling out Impostors unless they catch them in the act before their colors shift. In addition, Impostors will have a difficult time keeping track of their fellow Impostor and the crewmates.

Ideally, Impostors can take advantage of this mechanic by making a kill in a remote location, then staying out of sight until their color changes, as long as they have a solid alibi for where they have been. If they time it right, Impostors can even wait to make their kill until just before they change color for an added level of safety.

Some crewmates choose to stay in groups to keep track of another player's color changes along with their own. This can help players develop an alibi or check to make sure their partner isn't the Impostor. Crewmates partnering up can cause immense problems for the Impostor, as it can be difficult to catch a crewmate alone and execute a kill. Impostors can try to lie to say they were one color or another, but, if someone was looking and paying attention to their partner's color shifts, this can immediately out them as the Impostor as well.

In this mode, communication becomes extremely important, as players can really only identify themselves to one another during meetings when voice chatting. It can become both easier and more difficult to take a player at their word when they insist on the colors they have cycled through and tasks they have been doing when no one can truly trust what they have seen.

The Color Changer mod can add a new level of chaos and confusion to an already chaotic game. This is one of the few mods that doesn't appear to overpower or favor either the crewmates or Impostors, making it a fun option for a more balanced, memory-testing match.
