Until now, Instagram's 'Save Draft' feature was only available when users were attempting to make feed posts or 'Reels' short videos. However, Instagram is one of the biggest social media platforms on the planet and is constantly tinkering to try and make the user experience as enjoyable as possible. The latest such adjustment will expand the availability of content drafts.

At present, there are several different ways to post content on Instagram. There are standard feed posts, stories, story highlights, IGTV Video capabilities, and the most addition Reels, Instagram's answer to TikTok. For posting types like feed posts or Reels, users have the ability to work on content and save them as drafts to publish later.

Those capabilities are now heading to Instagram Stories, according to a tweet by Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram. Mosseri didn't add many details in the tweet, only that story drafts were "coming soon." In a pair of screenshots posted on Twitter by self-described leaker and mobile developer Alessandro Paluzzi, though, it appears that closing a story will prompt users to choose between discarding the story altogether, saving it as a draft, or canceling the command and heading back to the story itself.

Instagram Is Providing More Control Over Content

The actual rollout plan of the draft-saving feature for Instagram Stories is still a mystery, so it's unclear when users will be able to take advantage of it. When the new feature is given the green light, though, it will likely serve as a useful tool for creators and social media influencers alike. In a social media landscape where posting daily content is essential to staying relevant, drafts can play an important role in posting consistently. Creators can work on multiple stories in succession, then save them as drafts and keep them handy for posting at a later date. If a user or creator is low on content, they would have the ability to dig into their saved drafts for something to boost their views.

It doesn't have to be as creator-specific as that, of course. Saving stories as drafts will be plenty useful for everyday users. They could have something great to post, but need to hold off on publishing until a specific date. In an instance like that, they could prepare the story, then save it away until the time calls for it. Overall, the ability to save stories as drafts will have a positive impact on all kinds of Instagram profiles whenever it is eventually brought to the masses.
