With the announcement of both Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Marvel's Wolverine, Insomniac Games has begun to expand its catalog. Since debuting as part of the PlayStation Showcase in September, it's been confirmed that the games will take place in a shared in-game universe. The idea that both games will be part of a greater Marvel video game universe has prompted speculation as to what other characters could be introduced in future titles.

The trailers for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine have already teased upcoming characters. Spider-Man 2's trailer shows a glimpse of Venom, while Wolverine's hints at a possible Hulk appearance. Spider-Man and Wolverine have worked alongside a vast array of heroes throughout their publications in the comics, and there are certain individuals whose stories and gameplay could be interesting additions to subsequent Insomniac Marvel games.

The devil of Hell's Kitchen, Daredevil, could be a worthy addition to Insomniac's Marvel game universe, particularly as part of a team-up with Spider-Man. While Daredevil is blind, he is able to fight using his superhuman senses and incredible reflexes. In combat, he could fight silhouetted enemies with a mechanic similar to Spider-Man's Spider-Sense, dodging an attack with a well-timed button press to deliver a counterpunch. Rumors of a Marvel Daredevil game suggest the hero could star in his own story, but he could just as easily be featured alongside Spider-Man. The law office of Nelson and Murdock, Daredevil's day job, can be found as an Easter egg in Marvel's Spider-Man, suggesting the two may eventually cross paths in-game.

Insomniac's Marvel Universe Could Feature Nightcrawler & Other X-Men

The upcoming Marvel's Wolverine game opens the possibility of other iconic mutants from the X-Men appearing. One such mutant, Nightcrawler, could provide the game with a different approach to combat. Nightcrawler's mutant abilities allow him to teleport, and he is very nimble and agile.  While Wolverine faces enemies head-on like a brawler, Nightcrawler could allow for trickier combat, such as repositioning during a fight or using hit-and-run tactics. Additionally, he could take part in a mission that requires stealth, similar to the Mary Jane and Miles Morales missions from Marvel's Spider-Man. Potentially, Nightcrawler's addition to Marvel's Wolverine could prompt an appearance from his mother, the shape-shifting Mystique, as well.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is set to release sometime in 2023, and Marvel's Wolverine has no official release date as of yet. Insomniac will likely not release any further Marvel titles prior to the completion of those games, so the addition of more characters will have to wait until then. Still, heroes like Daredevil and Nightcrawler could be revealed for either of those titles in future updates.
