The Further is about to make its way back as Insidious 5 has officially wrapped filming. Wilson stars in the horror franchise as Josh Lambert, a man with the ability to astral project into a purgatory realm known as "The Further," in which tortured souls of the dead roam and seek to inhabit a human body, setting their eyes on his son Dalton, who also has the ability to astral travel without realizing it. Josh finds himself haunted by a parasitic spirit of an old woman seeking to possess him, who does so by the end of the first Insidious movie and through most of its sequel.Wilson is returning for Insidious 5 alongside fellow original stars Ty Simpkins as Dalton, now grown up and heading off to college, and Rose Byrne as Josh's wife Renai. Development on the sequel was announced in late 2020 as Wilson signed on to star and make his directorial debut with a script from Halloween Kills co-writer Scott Teems, who is writing from a story treatment penned by franchise creator Leigh Whannell, who is also producing alongside original director James Wan, Oren Peli and Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum. Production on Insidious 5 would finally kick off in July and now audiences are getting exciting news about its progress.Related: Every Leigh Whannell Movie Ranked From Worst To BestJust a month after a release date was set for the film, actor Dagmara Dominczyk took to Twitter to announce that Insidious 5 has officially wrapped filming. Dominczyk, wife of 17 years, expressed her happiness to have her husband home after "6 weeks of (fake) blood, sweat and tears" and teased that he "killed it" in his directorial debut. See Dominczyk's post below:

With Dominczyk stating that Insidious 5 took six weeks to shoot, it officially puts the latest installment in the horror franchise as the longest to produce, with the original film having been filmed within three weeks while the subsequent sequels have all wrapped after a month. Given the still-strict nature of the COVID-19 pandemic affecting productions, it seems possible that the longer filming schedule stems from following safety protocols to prevent any outbreaks on set. However, with Jason Blum recently taking to his Twitter to hype Insidious 5 and tease how much audiences will love it, it could be possible the extended production for the sequel comes from Wilson aiming for a larger scale than previous chapters.

Given Insidious 5 has officially wrapped filming, it will be interesting to see how long it takes for audiences to get their first proper look at the horror sequel. With a year still remaining until it hits theaters, it seems unlikely any footage will be shown for the film in the near future, though with Blum often sharing behind-the-scenes tidbits from his studio's films, it seems possible fans of the Insidious franchise may get a sneak peek at the next chapter sooner than later. In the meantime, audiences can revisit the first two Insidious movies streaming on Netflix and the latter two on Tubi now.
