Those who have re-watched Sex and the City way too many times should give HBO's Insecure a go. A show centers around two friends from LA who try to juggle their careers, friendships, and dating life. Despite always being there for each other, Molly and Issa don't have much in common. Molly is an ambitious lawyer who lives in a luxurious flat with a killer view, while Issa struggles to find her place in the world and can barely scrape by. When it comes to private lives, it's the other way around. Issa always seems to have a romantic interest, while Molly has very little luck with men.
The differences between the two main characters can also be seen in the way they dress. Molly is all about looking professional and doesn't like to wear bold prints like Issa does. She does, however, like to experiment with makeup and different hairstyles. She sports a different outfit every episode and she always looks her best in Insecure, no exceptions.
She Likes To Wear Burgundy
Season 1 Molly preferred to dress in lighter tones when going to work, but once she realized no one takes her as seriously as she would like, she stepped up her game. The change is reflected in the colors of suits she wears and one of the best outfits she ever wore was an all-burgundy suit that fits her so well as if it were tailor-made.
Molly also wore a burgundy jumpsuit to Issa's block party in season 4. There's also a scene in which Molly goes hiking with Issa, wearing burgundy sportswear. Generally speaking, her style highly resembles Madison's outfits from Dollface.
Molly Is All About Designer Clothing
In "Fresh-Like," Molly comes to see Issa's new flat, wearing a blue Versace tee and jeans. Even when she's not working, Molly swears by luxury brands. Her appreciation of all the fine things in life doesn't stop with her wardrobe, though.
She brought Issa gifts, among which was a fancy bottle of Hennessy: "Next level Henny 'cause you next level," she tells her bestie.
Printed Pants And A Cropped Cardigan
In "Lowkey Trying," Issa and Molly's friendship might be falling apart, but Molly is looking as good as ever. Wearing a cropped cardigan and printed high waisted slacks, she first visits her therapist who makes her head scratch by asking whether she'd rather be right or be in a relationship. It's a big enigma all the fans are wondering about: Who is Molly going to end up with?
Since Molly is typically wearing darker shades or vibrant colors, it was refreshing to see her wearing something lighter. Unfortunately, she had changed into something else after seeing her therapist.
Stealing The Spotlight At Tiffany's Baby Shower
Tiffany's baby shower was just as extra as her personality. Her friends got the implicit memo and all showed up rocking some of the best looks we have seen on Insecure. Molly was wearing an asymmetric Oscar de la Renta top, worth more than $1,000.
At the party, she ran into Dro and wanted to have a civil conversation, but he was dismissive and rude in return.
Molly On A Vacation In Mexico
While the rest of the characters never seem to leave LA, Molly loves her annual get-away. When she went to Mexico with Andrew, she wore amazing outfits only. From her Off-White yellow athletic set to her leopard print one-piece swimsuit that she wore in the pool, the whole episode felt like an entire fashion show.
While walking alongside the beach, she is wearing high rise bikinis by Solid & Striped. We are not sure if it was the lighting of the setting sun, the outfit, or both, but the scene is definitely one of the most aesthetic ones in the season.
Trying To Get Into All-Boys Club
Molly is desperate to feel equal at workplace, which she called getting into the "all-boys club". In order to look like she means business, she often wore black outfits to work, one of the most memorable ones being the one she wore when she bumped into Lawrence.
As mentioned before, Molly is big on wearing asymmetrical fashion pieces. This outfit that reveals her bare shoulders falls beautifully on her.
The Adidas Jacket Look
When Molly went to pick up the jacket that she forgot at Coachella from Andrew, she was wearing a beige Adidas jacket and matching pants that can't be seen on the photo. Here's a fun fact: it's the same jacket that Kourtney Kardashian wore on Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
Even when wearing casual brands, Molly keeps the colors neutral. While Issa is all about being as colorful as possible, Molly likes to stick to what she knows best. She prefers to switch up her hairstyles rather than her fashion style.
High-Waisted Shorts And A Shirt
We'd sooner expect Issa to wear an oversized shirt and denim shorts. When Molly wears such outfits, she breathes a certain elegance into them that Issa or Kelli would probably fail to do.
Molly tends to come across as reserved because she behaves in accordance with social niceties. But that doesn't mean she's a doormat. Quite on the contrary: when Issa's rap lines offend her, her mood instantly changes.
She's All About Unicolor Outfits
Unlike Issa, Molly is almost never wearing casual t-shirts. The only exception was at Issa's house party where Molly wore a Jimi Hendrix tee. It seems like she feels the most comfortable in outfits that exude professionalism, success, and luxury.
In "Lowkey Feelin' Myself," Molly goes shopping with Issa and she is wearing an all-pink outfit. She pays attention to how she looks from head to toe.
Looking Casual For A Change
To be fair, Issa's Lauryn Hill t-shirt is a much better look than a casual white tee that Molly is wearing in "Backwards-Like," but her camo jacket with patches is arguably one of the best outfits Molly ever wore because it is so different than what we are used to seeing.
Too bad that Molly only dresses like that on the weekends when she is running casual errands, such as picking up her French bulldog from dog spa.
