Indie gem Inscryption has released the free Kaycee’s Mod update, turning the game into an endlessly challenging roguelike. Inscryption launched in late 2021 to positive reception from both critics and players, impressing many with its genre-bending spin on card and deckbuilding titles.

Inscryption mixes psychological horror with a card game formula, adding in elements of escape rooms as well as roguelike gameplay. The resulting creep-fuelled CCG experience has gone on to secure the title a name as one of the best indie games of 2021, and its evergrowing fanbase has only seen further improvements since launch.  Kaycee's Mod entered beta testing in December, just weeks after the game's release, and its full launch has been a highly-anticipated addition to Inscryption due to the new elements and challenges it introduces. Inscryption was selected as Screen Rant's GOTY 2021, and both outlets and players have been eagerly awaiting more news on Kaycee's Mod.

Publisher Devolver Digital has confirmed that Inscryption's Kaycee's Mod update is now live for all players, with the update made available for free today, March 17. The new game mode solidifies the deckbuilding game as a standalone experience by offering an endlessly playable version of the game's Part 1. The mini-expansion "hacks Leshy’s Cabin into an endless, and increasingly challenging, roguelike," in which players can unlock new cards, challenges, and logs from the late Kaycee Hobbes as she uncovers fresh secrets.

The launch of the new game mode should give both new and existing Inscryption fans a reason to return to the game, and while still a new release, Kaycee's Mod's time in beta should mean most of its kinks and issues are now ironed out. Ahead of the full release, Inscryption developer Daniel Mullins Games released a number of updates and patches while the mode was in beta, making multiple fixes before Kaycee's Mod's March launch.

Judging from the number of updates and patches the game has seen, Daniel Mullins seemingly has no plans to slow down on new content and fixes for Inscryption. The game's general success, as well as the likely popularity of the new Kaycee's Mod mode, could suggest there's more yet to come. Kaycee's Mod introducing more playability to the game is a novel way to approach an update, one that takes player requests into account, without impeding on the original release. While the game's future is currently unclear, there's been an overwhelmingly positive reception to the indie title so far, and there's scope not only for DLC, but also a potential sequel for Inscryption. While fans are left wondering what's next for the game, there's at least lots of replayability for seasoned players thanks to Inscryption's Kaycee's Mod mode.
