A new Injustice: Gods Among Us prequel series is coming from Tom Taylor and it's promising to reveal some of the clandestine background of the Justice League's precursor - the Justice Society of America - in Injustice Year Zero: Fall of the Old Gods. And the best part? Fans can start reading it right now.

Taylor has been dropping hints about the series for the past several days via twitter, posting individual letters in Injustice's signature font to rile up the fans, even posting the cover art for the third issue in the series, which sees Amazing-Man continuing the long running practice of comic characters punching out Adolf Hitler. But the time for speculation is over as DC has made the announcement official.

According to DC's announcement of the series, Fall of the Old Gods' story "focuses the action around the Justice League and the discovery of how their predecessors covertly fought within WWII to bring down a tyrant. When the Joker finds a way to control DC’s Super Heroes, he uses his leverage to sabotage the Justice League—and the JSA—from the inside!" The digital-first series will be spread across 14 books, with the first three chapters already available. To celebrate the launch of what could prove to be a universe-changing story line, DC is offering the first three issues as a bundle for $2.49 through ReadDC.com or Comixology. The issues can also be purchased individually for $0.99 through most major digital publishing platforms and the remaining issues will release twice a month. Rogê Antônio, Cian Tormey, Rain Beredo and Wes Abbott handled the art on this new series.

The original Injustice series, launched by Taylor in 2013, told the story of a tyrannical Superman, who snapped after the Joker tricks him into killing a pregnant Lois Lane. Superman literally punches Joker's heart out of his chest in retaliation, before going on to create a totalitarian dictatorship through which he could subjugate humanity, alienating many of his former friends and allies.

Gods Among Us served as a prequel book for the video game of the same name, which saw DC mainstays - both heroic and villainous -  going to battle with one another Mortal Kombat-style, and the story revealed to readers what transpired in the five years leading up to Superman's rule. But the universe has obviously proved successful enough to transcend its tie-in origins, and the WWII setting should offer fans a fresh perspective on the universe Taylor helped to craft years ago. The original game, as well as its sequel, proved to be big hits, and there's speculation of a third installment in the works. But since that's just conjecture right now,  Injustice Year Zero ought to hold fans over in the meantime.
