After NetherRealm Studios announced it was ending support for Mortal Kombat 11, fan buzz caused Injustice 3 to begin trending on Twitter. The announcement regarding Mortal Kombat 11 came earlier today. Almost immediately, fans began wondering what the next move would be for the team at NetherRealm Studios.

Back in May, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon teased a Marvel vs. DC fighting-game crossover, and it appears as though that rumor is gaining more traction. Injustice 2 launched in 2017, so it has been four years since the game released. The gap of time between Injustice 2 and the original Injustice was also four years long. With these facts in mind, fans took to Twitter and turned Injustice 3 into a trending topic.

On Twitter, a search for "Injustice 3," will bring up countless posts from fans sharing memes and begging NetherRealm Studios for the next Injustice game. Fans appear to be asking for Zatanna to be included on the hypothetical Injustice 3 roster, perhaps due to her upcoming HBO movie. Many fans, like user obiwansjedi on Twitter, note that the next game could (or should) be, "injustice 3 or that Marvel fighting game."

In fact, many fans are split on whether the next NetherRealm Studios game will be Injustice 3 or an unannounced Marvel fighting game. Given past hints from Boon and today's announcement, it could be both, which would surely generate intense fan excitement. It is unclear if this indeed will be the case, or even when such a project would be announced.

It is also possible that the next project could be a Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks remaster, or a remaster of another Mortal Kombat title like Mortal Kombat 9 or Mortal Kombat: Deception. Those possibilities stem from a poll posted by Boon last month. Still, it is possible a remaster project is years away, and Boon may have simply been asking fans hypothetical questions.

Rumors about Injustice 3 have circulated since a new Injustice comic was teased last summer. To fans, an Injustice 3 game feels like the perfect companion release alongside the Injustice 3 prequel comic. It is unclear what the next NetherRealm Studios project will be since it only announced it was moving on from Mortal Kombat 11 hours ago. The odds of this next project being Injustice 3 look good. At the very least, fans on Twitter seem to hope so.
