A recent Tweet from Ed Boon suggests that an announcement about Injustice 3 might be coming soon, as the developer is appearing on a panel at the DC FanDome event later in the month. The fighting series is set in an alternate reality of the DC universe, with characters like Superman and Batman pitted against each other and forced to team up with unlikely allies from various DC comics.

Ed Boon is the co-creator of the Mortal Kombat series and also directed Injustice: Gods Among Us. In recent years, NetherRealm Studios has switched between working on the Mortal Kombat franchise and the DC fighting series. With the studio having just completed the Aftermatch DLC for Mortal Kombat 11, it makes sense that the developer would now be focusing on Injustice 3. There have been numerous rumors in recent months that the game is in development, with a release expected at some point in 2021 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

The Twitter post by Ed Boon references the fact that he will be appearing at DC FanDome on a panel with movie star Dwayne Johnson.  The former wrestler is now involved in the DC universe, where he will portray the villain Black Adam in a future film. This has prompted speculation that the panel will be used as a way of announcing Injustice 3, as Ed Boon was a key figure in creating the series and has led the development of both of the previous entries. The sequel has also been teased multiple times, with comic writer Tom Taylor hinting that more comic books based on the game are coming.

Earlier in 2020, Dwayne Johnson confirmed that he was set to appear in the DC universe as the supervillain and arch-enemy of Billy Batson in Black Adam. The film is tentatively scheduled to release in cinemas in December 2010 but that could change with the COVID-19 pandemic causing widespread delays in the movie industry. Johnson then revealed in June that he would appear at the DC FanDome in August. The virtual convention is already expected to include a variety of video game announcements, including Rocksteady's upcoming Suicide Squad game.

Fans of the Injustice series will no doubt be excited to learn more about Injustice 3. The game has likely been in development for some time but so far neither NetherRealm Studios nor Warner Bros. has confirmed that the title actually exists. The DC FanDome would also be the perfect time to announce the game, as plenty of viewers are sure to be tuned into the virtual convention to get all the latest news about the comic universe.
