It's currently unknown if there will ever be an Injustice 3, as plans continue to move ahead for the wider gaming world featuring the characters and narratives of DC Comics. The Injustice series is one of the most popular titles that Warner Bros. has produced, alongside NetherRealm Studios.

The initial games and the comic book tie-ins, alongside the animated movie, have showcased or hinted toward various significant deaths. That doesn't mean that these characters couldn't come back in some capacity in the next installment, perhaps enhancing the story further and allowing players to take control of some unique heroes and villains.

Huntress

The Injustice games really play into the themes of the contrasts between the vigilantes who operate on a street level and the god-like meta humans, like Superman, who work on a whole other level. Batman is very much the voice of reason in the narrative, and Huntress reflects that further.

The character's death is quite sudden in the comics, with Wonder Woman snapping her neck with her lasso. It would be intriguing to see her come back since her murder had such a huge impact on her Birds Of Prey teammates, and from a gameplay perspective, she'd be an intriguing alternative to the usual Green Arrow.

Nightwing

Nightwing/Dick Grayson in DC Comics

Nightwing has hugely influenced Batman's journey, considering how important the two vigilantes are to one another. The original character hasn't made any kind of impact in the video games thus far, but one comic narrative that has been touched upon in the game does involve Nightwing's death.

The reason he has been absent from the titles is that Dick Grayson was actually murdered by Damian Wayne, with Wayne taking the Nightwing name and corrupting it by siding with Superman. The Nightwing of the earlier titles isn't the original and thus Grayson's return would be a way to conclude the arc.

Shazam

Shazam in DC Future State Comic

Shazam is one of the most powerful beings in the whole of the DC Universe. He could change the tide of battle in the video games and has factored into the titles previously. However, the comics have seen his tragic death, re-enacting what the original game actually portrayed.

Superman was the one to murder Shazam, knowing what kind of threat he would be to his regime. But the character didn't get to fulfill his full potential. With the events of the second Injustice putting the universe in a very different place, Shazam's return would launch yet another shift in the status quo and where the power truly lies.

Ragman

Ragman attacks an enemy from DC Comics

Ragman is another character whose power set is beyond what Superman would have wanted to have countered. The character hasn't been adapted into the game and has been killed off in the comics by Spectre, who was helping to free Superman from his captors, Constantine and Ragman.

He was a valiant hero in the fight against the corruption of Superman's new empire but ultimately fell in battle. His mystical background would allow for resurrection to be a little bit more believable and his abilities would craft some genuinely out-there gameplay options.

Jimmy Olsen

Jimmy Olsen lying on the floor with his hands behind his head

Jimmy Olsen has always been portrayed as the powerless sidekick who gives the reader an authentic point of view to explore. In the context of Injustice, his death was one of the catalysts for the event that unfolded, with Joker shooting Olsen and showcasing how dark the series would be.

He doesn't play into the events moving forward, but a revival would actually change everything. Adding Olsen as a vengeful killer, demonstrating that loss of innocence, would be a twist no one was expecting. Fighting as Olsen, perhaps even in the Guardian form, would add a completely new style of play.

Jesse Quick

Jess Chambers aka Kid Quick in water

Longtime fans of the video games will know that there have been a variety of speedsters available in the title. While The Flash is the basic character largely featured, re-skins and costume changes have essentially allowed everyone from Crimson Comet to Reverse-Flash to be included.

The comics see Jesse Quick involved in the conflict, even if she hasn't been on screen thus far. She's tasked by Lex Luthor with saving him and she manages to do so, losing her life in the process. But what if an iteration of the character returned, perhaps angry at her sacrifice or looking for revenge? It would be a way to replace the Flash and modernize the roster slightly.

Weather Wizard

Weather Wizard creates a lightening tornado

Weather Wizard is a lesser-known character in the history of DC Comics but one with such a unique array of gifts that he simply has to be included in the game. As part of the Rogues in the comics, he faces a dark end, redeeming himself in his final acts.

Despite being a villain he's recruited by Batman alongside the rest of the team. They face Bizarro, who loses his temper and kills Weather Wizard in cold blood. This kind of anti-hero Weather Wizard would add a complex dynamic to the video game and his powers would once again innovate when it comes to the gameplay itself.

The Joker

Joker laughing in the comics.

The Joker is really the architect of all of this madness. He was the one to push things too far, killing Lois Lane and completely turning Superman's world upside-down. Famously it was the Clown Prince of Crime who was killed first by the Man of Steel, out of revenge.

The character returns from the Multiverse in the video games, but what if the original iteration was resurrected? It might restart the conflicts, pitting the supers against one another over what should really be done with the Joker. Should he be killed again? Narratively he's a perfect inclusion.

Lois Lane

Lois Lane smiling at her desk in DC Comic Book

Lois Lane is very much intertwined with those origins, with her murder at the hands of the Joker breaking Superman's heart and killing his hope. She would certainly be a new character in the context of the games though, as players have never seen her in the full narrative.

A Multiverse version would certainly cause emotions to flare, but an iteration where she has been resurrected would be even more controversial. Regardless of the way she is included, Lois Lane's arrival would have huge ramifications for the narrative.

John Stewart

John Stewart with his ring of power in DC Comics.

John Stewart is included in the games as a re-skin for Hal Jordon. However, he barely gets any play there, with his most intriguing arc happening in the comics instead. He's on Superman's side but is completely mixed on how he actually feels about that fact.

He doesn't know if he's doing the right thing, but Sinestro murders him before he gets the chance to really decide. The duality could be played around with in the narrative of the games. If Stewart was brought back from the dead, how would the betrayal affect his standing moving forward?
