Injustice 2: Firestorm Battles Green Arrow in New Trailer

As one of the most highly-anticipated gaming titles of 2017, Injustice 2 has a lot of hype to live up to when it makes its debut later this year. Coming to fans hot on the heels of the critically acclaimed 2013 release, Injustice: Gods Among Us, there’s a lot of expectation for high quality storytelling, as well as one of the most interactive and immersive experiences ever from the DC fighting game.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios are back and collaborating on the sequel, which promises to offer up the biggest playable roster of DC superheroes and villains there has ever been. Lately, such names as Swamp Thing, Poison Ivy and Black Canary have been revealed, with many more to be announced in the coming weeks leading up to release. There will even be another comic book prequel series to run alongside the release of the game.

Firestorm is one of the latest names attached to the title, and now a new trailer has been revealed showcasing the hero’s biggest moves in fights against Green Arrow and Catwoman. Watch it above.

While it’s great to see Firestorm in action (and to witness his awesome Power Move for the first time!), the scene stealer arguably comes from Killer Croc. The reptile-human hybrid features in an environmental move that sees Catwoman thrown through a brick wall into the sewers, where Croc picks her up and smashes her into another two brick walls before chucking her right back into battle. It’s awe-inspiring stuff, and certainly something that could change the direction a fight is taking in just a matter of seconds.

Seeing the effort that’s going into making each of these playable characters unique and giving them their own flair and style of fighting is definitely reassuring. There’s always a chance that with a game of this type, a sequel could quickly be slapped with the "stale" label, but that doesn’t look like it’ll be the case here, with innovative styles of fighting and a story that looks like it will be as gripping as the first.

With all the right ingredients to become one of this year’s biggest hits, fans can only hope that the final product lives up to the hype. It may be near impossible to top the Gods Among Us offering, but if anybody’s going to do it, it’s the team behind this title.
