Bringing fictional comic book superheroes, villains and everything in between from the DC Universe to a fighting game like no other, developers NetherRealm Studios will once again be teaming up with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for the sequel to the largely-successful Injustice: Gods Among Us. Simply titled Injustice 2, Ed Boon returns as director on the follow-up alongside producer Adam Urbano, hoping to emulate the success the first installment in the series saw.

The past few months have seen a constant release of promotional Injustice 2 material, with new characters added to the upcoming game’s roster every couple of weeks. Some of those faces include Doctor Fate, Swamp Thing and Black Canary, all who were left out of the original game’s proceedings. While it’s their first time being a part of the franchise, other announced playable characters include returnees, such as Batman, Superman, Poison Ivy and Catwoman. Now with the release of a brand new trailer, two new ‘Green’ heroes have been officially unveiled who fit into the latter category.

Green Lantern and Green Arrow are those heroes, bringing their unique fighting styles to the brawling title and showcasing some of their moves in this new trailer. Though Green Lantern may have been fighting for the wrong side during the events of Gods Among Us, he’s now more than ever willing to prove he’s got Batman’s back; something the Caped Crusader needs if he’s to take down Superman and stop his earth-shattering agenda. Judging by these new scenes, the Dark Knight and his comrades are going to have to put their trust in the unlikeliest of places, if they’re to succeed in saving the world once more.

Injustice 2 - Superman

This Shattered Alliances teaser just further stokes the fires of anticipation for DC and gaming fans across the globe. Gods Among Us was one of the most successful titles of 2013, with the story proving to do extremely well with consumers, so expectations are high for the sequel game.

In saying that, NetherRealm Studios will face tough judgment with Injustice 2, so hopefully the studio will have some surprises up their sleeves to avoid getting slapped with the ‘stale’ label that many games series have been tagged with in the past. Keeping much of the game’s plot under wraps is exactly how to kick start that journey – we just hope it doesn’t disappoint, when all is finally revealed.

Injustice 2 will be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 16, 2017.
