The latest gameplay video for Injustice 2 finally brings Hellboy into the fight. After the massive success of Injustice: Gods Among Us, anticipation was high for this year's sequel. Critics and fans have mostly hailed Injustice 2 as a worthy and fun follow-up to its predecessor, since its release. With a story mode involving a sinister plan by Brainiac and tons of upgradeable gear and costumes, Injustice 2 lets fans dive into the deepest corners of the DC universe.
Injustice 2 isn't just limited to DC Comics characters, however, as a number of others are slowly joining the battle. Back in August, the second of two Fighter Packs were revealed, promising fans access to Raiden, Black Manta, and Hellboy when the DLC became available. While Black Manta is one of the many additional DC characters that have been released since the game debuted, Raiden and Hellboy follow a tradition of fighting games mixing canon when it comes to bonus characters. Like Soul Caliber before it, Injustice 2 already added Sub-Zero in a previous release. With the latest DLC on the horizon, a trailer showing Black Manta in action has already been released. Now, fans get an early look at Hellboy's moves.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released the gameplay trailer for Hellboy, teasing the character's arrival in Fighter Pack 2 when it releases on November 14. In the video, Hellboy is appropriately pitted against the Red Lantern Atrocitus in a rage-filled battle. The character is also shown using his sword, revolver, and Right Hand of Doom against Cyborg and Scarecrow in the game. Along with those classic weapons, there's plenty of magic and throwing of background equipment. Fittingly, Hellboy's Super Move sends opponents down to the fiery depths.
Mike Mignola's most iconic character has been having a good year. After talks of Guillermo del Toro's proposed Hellboy 3 flared up and then once again stalled, it was announced that the Hellboy film series will be getting a reboot. Now, Stranger Things star David Harbour is tackling the role of Hellboy on the big screen, in the upcoming Neil Marshall-directed relaunch.
For Injustice 2, the game went with a fairly faithful adaptation of the Hellboy character from the comic books. While both film versions have borrowed from the comics, the game is naturally able to match Hellboy's particular build and dimensions in a way that would be hard for a human actor to pull off. While every character in the game should stand a chance against any of their opponents, the video makes it hard to deny that Hellboy has some powerful moves at his disposal here.
Along with Hellboy, Raiden, and Black Manta, there are other bonus characters coming to Injustice 2 in the months ahead. The Black Lightning gameplay trailer has confirmed that the character will be included in Fighter Pack 2, while the Ryan Choi version of The Atom is likewise "coming soon" to the game. With the DLC drop just around the corner, dedicated fans should have a greatly expanded roster soon.
The latest Injustice 2 DLC will be available November 14, for those who purchased either Fighter Pack 2, Injustice 2 Ultimate Edition, Injustice 2 Digital Deluxe Edition, or Injustice 2 Ultimate Pack. For all others, Hellboy will debut November 21 for $5.99.
