Warner Bros. UK releases a second The Informer trailer. Directed by Andrea Di Stefano, the action crime thriller stars The Suicide Squad actor Joel Kinnaman. Last November, the first The Informer trailer teased the full storyline.

In The Informer, Kinnaman stars as Pete Koslow, a former Special Ops soldier who ends up in jail after a fight. Two FBI agents, portrayed by Rosamund Pike (A Private War) and Clive Owen (The Knick), enlist Koslow for undercover work that will theoretically lead to an early release. But the informant becomes wrapped up in a deadly conflict between the Polish mafia and the FBI, and he’s forced to begin yet another covert mission from inside prison. Common (The Chi) has a supporting role as Grens, while Ana Des Armas (Blade Runner 2049) co-stars as Kinnaman’s love interest, Sofia Hoffman. The original 162-second trailer emphasizes Koslow the character, and all the specifics associated with the main players from the FBI, the police, and the Polish mob.

Warner Bros. UK released The Informer’s second trailer. The new clip is just 60 seconds long, and prioritizes suspense and hype over narrative detail. Rapid editing quickly establishes that the FBI has placed Koslow as a mole inside a prison, and the protagonist then learns from the mafia that he must break his parole in order to survive. From there, full screen graphics reinforce the primary themes (power, corruption), and the score progressively becomes more intense to emphasize the stakes involved. In the final 30 seconds, Kinnaman shows off his action star skill set, as Koslow uses violence to ensure a way back home. The original trailer uses VO’s song “Payback” to highlight Kinnaman’s star power, whereas the new trailer places more attention on the fundamental story beats, but without revealing too much about Common’s character (who is prominently featured in the first clip). Check out The Informer trailer below.

To further hype The Informer, the trailer includes graphics that read “From the Producer of Sicario and John Wick.” This alludes to American film producer Basil Iwanyk, who has steadily worked with action filmmakers since collaborating with Kathryn Bigelow for the 2002 historical submarine film K-19: The Widowmaker. Iwanyk is the founder of Thunder Road Films, which produced all of the John Wick and Sicario films, along with 2018 features like A Star Is Born, Hotel Mumbai, and Robin Hood

Based on The Informer’s new trailer, Kinnaman fans can expect much more than a cash-grab action flick. There’s an impressive supporting cast in place, as Pike is an Oscar-nominated actress (Gone Girl), while Owen, a veteran action star himself, won an Oscar for his performance in the 2004 romantic drama Closer. And Des Armas is one of cinema’s rising stars, one who will undoubtedly reach a new level of fame after appearing in the upcoming Bond 25. Hopefully, Di Stefano and fellow screenwriters Matt Cook and Rowan Joffe put together a tight, cohesive script for The Informer.
