SPOILERS for Avengers: Infinity War ahead.
A new fan-made trailer evokes nostalgia as it pays tribute to the original Earth's Mightiest Heroes. It's been three years since fans saw the core Avengers together on the big screen in Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron. Since then, the team has parted ways with Thor and Bruce Banner ending up in space, while Tony Stark and Steve Rogers got into a conflict that ultimately led into the team's disbandment. This left the Earth at its most vulnerable. Little did they know that the biggest threat that will face was just lurking in the shadows - and now that Thanos is here, the MCU needs its best and brightest superheroes to save the day yet again.
As the MCU has continued to expand over the past few years, it has gotten more and more difficult to get the original six Avengers together on their own in the MCU. And while it's been great seeing new heroes like Black Panther, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange join the party, many longtime Marvel fans have been creating tributes to the original Avengers team in the MCU, in the wake of Infinity War's release.
While there wasn't a full reunion in Avengers: Infinity War for the original six, the film sets the stage for the team to finally regroup as one in next year's Avengers 4. In preparation of that much-anticipated moment, YouTube content creator Mr. Krepshus has created a trailer that reminds fans of how far the core Avengers have come, starting with Tony Stark's life-changing experience in Afghanistan. You can watch said fan-trailer in the space above.
For Marvel fans, it's difficult not to get a bit emotional seeing montages like this. Over the course of the last few months leading to Infinity War, there was an influx of fan-trailers centering on recapping the history of the franchise, but few were as nostalgic as this latest one. If anything, the clip and how it affects those who have been following the personal arcs of these heroes illustrates just how invested people are in these characters. MCU films are not perfect by any means, but if there is one thing that Marvel Studios continues to nail every single time, it's the depiction of these characters in a way that they're relatable and easy to root for. There is no doubt that it's going to be very difficult to see some (if not all) of these six heroes bite the bullet for real during Avengers 4.
Difficult as it may be to see the foundational heroes of the MCU go, it's necessary to keep things fresh and interesting for fans. Those in charge in the franchise, like Marvel Studis president Kevin Feige, are similarly looking ahead already to the MCU movies arriving in 2025. One recurring criticism of the MCU is its lack of stakes, since fans can typically trust that Iron Man, Thor, and/or Captain America will get out of any battle unscathed, no matter its intensity. But with the arrival of Thanos and how Marvel Studios built him up to be this menacing villain, it's expected that Avengers 4 will feature some permanent superhero deaths (including, possibly even some of the ones that happened in Infinity War). Whatever happens, here's to hoping the MCU's core Avengers get the fitting sendoff that they deserve.
