Warning! Spoilers ahead for Infinite Frontier #6

In the latest issue of DC Comics' Infinite Frontier, the version of Batman from Barry Allen's Flashpoint is seriously trying to make up for his role in killing Alfred Pennyworth. After Thomas Wayne became the sole survivor of his dark timeline, he ended up teaming with Bane, one of his son's darkest and most brutal foes, which ultimately led to the death of the Bat-Family's surrogate father Alfred. However, illustrating Thomas' deep regrets for what he'd done, Infinite Frontier now sees him taking action, looking to do right by his son Bruce and his children.

In DC's Flashpoint, Barry Allen ran back in time to save his mother. However, this altered the timeline drastically, creating the Flashpoint universe where the nations of Aquaman and Wonder Woman were at war, Superman was found by the government and kept in a lab his entire life, and Hal Jordan never became Green Lantern. However, one of the biggest changes was that Bruce Wayne died instead of his parents, resulting in Thomas Wayne becoming Batman while Martha became the Joker in this new twisted timeline. As a result, when Thomas learns that his son lived in the actual timeline and became Batman himself, Thomas saw this as unacceptable, wanting more for his son than a crusade of vengeance.

After surviving the eventual destruction of the Flashpoint universe, Thomas chose to work with Bane to break his son, wanting Bruce to quit his life as the Dark Knight and move on. However, Bane caused too much destruction and suffering in the City of Bane event, culminating in his murder of Alfred Pennyworth, which provided clarity for Thomas, who ultimately betrayed Bane. Now, Infinite Frontier #6 sees Thomas Wayne alongside the multiversal heroes of Justice Incarnate as they battle Darkseid and his Injustice Incarnate. During the battle, Thomas faces Machinehead and it's here where the Flashpoint Batman makes his intentions known, wanting to do right by his son and the Bat-Family after having failed them so greatly.

But the question remains; can Thomas Wayne really make up for his role in killing Alfred Pennyworth? The death of Alfred has had some major effects on the heroes of Gotham, many of which are still being felt in the current comics despite the event having happened over 2 years ago. Case in point, Batman and Damian are still estranged due to Bruce's lack of availability to help his son through his trauma, as Bane killed Alfred right in front of the young Robin.

In any case, while the Flashpoint Batman's sentiments and desire to protect the Bat-Family are a decent start, it seems as though Thomas Wayne is going to have a long road ahead of him if he wants to even think about interacting with his son's family again, let alone gain their forgiveness (not to mention forgiveness from DC's readers). All in all, the ranks of Justice Incarnanate seem like a good fit for Flashpoint Batman, but it's going to be a while before he can fully redeem his past actions in Gotham City after what he did to the Bat-Family - if redemption is even possible after Alfred's death.
