  • Keep an eye out for hidden jokes and Easter eggs like Club Obi Wan and character name origins in the film.

Dan Aykroyd's Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom cameo makes for a fun Easter egg to try and catch when rewatching the classic sequel. Raiders Of The Lost Ark became an instant action classic upon release in 1981, leading to one of the most beloved movie franchises of all time. The Temple of Doom was the first sequel of the series though it actually takes place before the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Harrison Ford steps back into his iconic role as Indy while joined by some fun new cast members.

The two standout additions to The Temple of Doom are Kate Capshaw as Willie, Indy's new love interest, and Ke Huy Quan as Short Round, Indy's young sidekick. Capshaw would go on to become Steven Spielberg's wife while Quan would go on to win an Oscar nearly 40 years later with his performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. As memorable as those cast members are, there is a cameo from original Saturday Night Live cast member Dan Aykroyd that still goes unnoticed by many Indiana Jones fans all these years later.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is a classic entry in the legendary action-adventure series, but a re-watch reveals some unfortunate truths.

Dan Akyroyd Can Be Seen At Nang Tao Airport

Akroyd Play's Indy's Ally Early In The Movie

Dan Akroyd' cameo at the airport in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Dan Aykroyd's cameo can be spotted just after the thrilling opening sequence of the Indiana Jones sequel when Indy and his friends flee from the crime boss Lao Che. Following the fight at the club and the getaway chase sequence, Indiana, Willie, and Short Round arrive at Nang Tao Airport. Akroyd plays Art Weber, the British Army officer who arranges a plane for the trio to escape on. He informs them they'll be traveling with live poultry, which was the best he could arrange on short notice.

He is only seen in a wide shot while talking to Indy and speaks with a British accent.

Despite Akroyd being a well-established star at the time, it is hard to recognize him in the movie as the camera never really focuses on him. He is only seen in a wide shot while talking to Indy and speaks with a British accent. Even easier to miss than Aykroyd's Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom cameo is that of George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy, and Steven Spielberg, who all play missionaries loading luggage in the background of the airport sequence.

Temple Of Doom's Other Easter Eggs

Star Wars References And Character Names Reveal More Hidden Gags

Dan Akroyd's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom cameo is not the only sly Easter egg in the sequel. One of the most famous hidden jokes in the movie also comes early on with Loa Che's club being called Club Obi Wan. Indy's outfit in that opening sequence is also a fun nod as he wears the same white tuxedo as James Bond in Goldfinger. The character of Indiana Jones famously came about after Steven Spielberg wanted to make a Bond movie but George Lucas convinced him to make an original hero.

There is also a recurring gag from the first movie in relation to some of the characters' names. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade revealed the truth behind Indiana Jones' name as the family dog was named Indiana. This was a joke in reference to the fact that Indiana was the name of George Lucas' dog and that's where he got the name. However, the tradition continued in The Temple of Doom as Spielberg's dog was named Willie and screenwriters Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz’s dog was named Short Round.
