Original franchise star Karen Allen addresses whether her character, Marion Ravenwood, will appear opposite Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. After being introduced in 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark as Indy's love interest, Marion wasn't included in either subsequent installment. The character would return in 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which earned mixed reviews from audiences and critics. Taking over from original franchise director Stephen Spielberg, James Mangold helms the upcoming fifth entry, which is expected to serve as Ford's last time playing the iconic hero, with John Rhys-Davies confirmed to return as Sallah.

Following the release of the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny trailer, Allen, in a recent interview with Showbiz411, comments on whether fans can expect to see Marion in the upcoming film. The actor is careful to give nothing away, but the fact that she doesn't outright deny her return could be telling. Check out Allen's coy response below:

“I could tell you but then I’d have to kill you! Seriously, I can’t say a word.”

How Indiana Jones 4 Sets Up Marion's Return

Indiana Jones and Marion looking over their shoulders and smiling

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull catches up with an older version of Indy and sees him eventually reconnect with Marion throughout his new adventure. The film then reveals that Indy and Marion have a son, Mutt (Shia LaBeouf), further connecting the two former lovers. The end of the divisive fourth Indiana Jones adventure features Ford's character marrying Marion. The two walk off into the sunset, seemingly ready to settle down and spend the rest of their lives together. Mangold's upcoming entry into the franchise takes place in 1969, 12 years after the previous installment, but the trailer does not mention how Indy's home life is going.

One of the promotional images for the fifth installment shows Ford's character wearing a wedding band on the ring finger of his left hand, suggesting that he and Marion are still together in the world of the films. While the wedding ring doesn't confirm that Marion will appear in the upcoming Indiana Jones movie, the affirmation that their love persists means that the ending to the fourth installment won't be retconned in any significant ways. It's also possible, however, that Marion has died and that Indy continues to wear the wedding ring to honor her in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Marion's Dial Of Destiny Return Can Help Give Indy A Proper Sendoff

While the trailer suggests Marion won't be as pivotal a character in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny as she was in the previous film, even a brief cameo from her could make the film's ending more powerful. After decades of death-defying adventures, many fans would probably agree that Ford's hero deserves a happy ending. Seeing him settle back into a comfortable life with Marion would tick that box. It's still unclear if Allen will reprise her role in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Still, the actor's return would also help connect the film to Raiders of the Lost Ark, creating more of a full-circle journey for Ford's character.
