Everyone's favorite archeologist rides for one final adventure in the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Super Bowl trailer. The next film in the Harrison Ford-led franchise will see Indiana venturing to find the eponymous artifact with the help of his goddaughter, Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Helena, before a group of former Nazis can get their hands on it to turn back time. Alongside Ford and Waller-Bridge, the ensemble cast for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny features returning actor John Rhys-Davies as Sallah, Antonio Banderas, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, and Mads Mikkelsen.
With a few months still remaining until it hits theaters, Lucasfilm have unveiled a new Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny trailer during Super Bowl LVII.
The new footage for the film offers further exciting glimpses at the franchise's long-awaited return, as well as Ford's final outing in the action-adventure series. The Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny trailer also spotlights more of the groundbreaking de-aging tech being applied to its titular hero.
Everything The Indiana Jones 5 Trailer Reveals
Though a much shorter bit of footage than the first one shown at D23, the new Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny trailer offers plenty of exciting new glimpses from the film. One of the briefest, yet most impressive, is more of the de-aging tech being applied to Ford for the movie's opening sequence, set in the year 1944, in which he faces off against Mikkelsen's Nazi antagonist, Jürgen Voller. Ford has been very enthusiastic about the technology, remarking his amazement at the A.I.-based program sorting through old Lucasfilm titles for facial references of his younger self.
It is interesting to note, however, that the new Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny trailer seems to hint Mikkelsen and Ford's characters first met in the '40s-set opening scene, with the former not remembering his encounter with the titular adventurer. The clip does offer a very brief glimpse at Mikkelsen in the past, seemingly de-aged akin to Ford for the sequence, though to a lesser extent, considering the over-20-year gap between them. Considering many of the theories surrounding Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny point towards time travel factoring into its plot, it will be interesting to see if these de-aged versions play larger parts in the film.
One of the other big takeaways from the new Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny trailer is one that may raise some concerns, which is the extent of CGI featured. While the advanced technology has become a staple for Lucasfilm in elevating its action sequences, it was a major point of criticism for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Only time will tell if the new film suffers from the same negative audience reception when it hits theaters on June 30.
