New set photos for Indiana Jones 5 reveal the first locations being built for the long-awaited sequel. Following the lukewarm reception to 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skullthe beloved Harrison Ford-starring franchise fell into a limbo state. Development on Indiana Jones 5 sprung up in 2016, but progress has been slow to come with changing writers and directors, as well as delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Once upon a time, the movie was supposed to release in 2019; now, Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled for July 2022.

A long last, the fifth adventure for Dr. Jones appears to be inching towards its start. Over the past couple months, several supporting players have signed on alongside the returning Ford, including Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Boyd Holbrook, and Mads MikkelsenLogan director James Mangold will take over for Steven Spielberg with Indiana Jones 5, which might take place within the 1960s. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, though Ford's involvement at least confirms it will not be rebooting the character of Indiana. After hints that production would finally commence this year, there are signs that Indiana Jones 5 is just about ready to kick off.

As shared online by Switzerland_Forever, the sets for Indiana Jones 5 are in the process of being built ahead of filming starting next week. The first photo doesn't give much indication of what to expect, as it is mainly construction materials. However, the second shot reveals a half-formed castle tower. Whether this is supposed to remain half-formed and only be some ruins, or if it still has some building to go remains to be seen. However, considering Indiana's line of work, it might make more sense to have it be ruins.

Indiana Jones Game Has Reportedly Started Production

For many, these pictures are almost too good to be true. While much of Indiana Jones 5 remains a mystery, these locations are still proof that the movie actually is coming. It's been well over ten years since Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and Ford has put in appearances in other past franchises like Star Wars and Blade Runner before finally circling back to this one. Indiana Jones 5 is making progress, and these early set pics promise it'll feature some cool locations.

Each Indiana Jones installment has found its titular hero searching for some legendary item, and it can be assumed the fifth movie will as well. Exactly what it could be hasn't been revealed just yet, though he's already taken on objects like the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail. The full form and in-story location of the castle from the set pictures could provide some clues as to what Indy is after now. Hopefully, as Indiana Jones 5 begins filming, more details will be revealed.
