Indiana Jones 5 star Mads Mikkelsen praises the film's script, saying it was everything he wished it to be. Following Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, the studio wasted no time in producing a plethora of new Star Wars content, but things have been slow-moving on the Indiana Jones front for a while. A fifth installment in the classic film series was officially announced back in 2016, but since then Indiana Jones 5 has encountered a number of issues. The script was passed between multiple writers, and eventually Steven Spielberg vacated the director's chair, giving way to James Mangold.

Fortunately, things seem to have settled down now and Indiana Jones 5 is on track for its 2022 release date. Production is ramping up to begin this year, and Mangold has started the process of fleshing out the supporting cast. Recently, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mikkelsen joined the film in mystery roles, adding excitement for what's to come. Many are curious to see what Indiana Jones 5 brings to the table, but based on what Mikkelsen's saying, audiences are in for a treat.

Speaking with Collider, Mikkelsen opened up about being cast in Indiana Jones 5, reminiscing about his love for the franchise. Check out his comments below:

“I’m very, very excited about it… I rewatched Raiders of the Lost Ark the other day, it is so well-done and so charming, and it’s such great storytelling. So yes it’s a great honor to be part of that franchise that I grew up with… I’m in a lucky position where they let me read the script before. And yes, it was everything I wished it to be, so that was just great.”

Mads Mikkelsen in Another Round

Obviously, Mikkelsen isn't going to criticize the Indiana Jones 5 script well before the film comes out, but it's still encouraging to hear him speak so highly of the screenplay. The last Indiana Jones movie, 2008's Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was not as well-received as its predecessors, so the hope is Mangold will be able to help return the franchise to its former glory and give the character a fitting sendoff. This will in all likelihood be Harrison Ford's last go-around as Indiana Jones (the actor will have just celebrated his 80th birthday by the time the movie comes out), so it would be a shame if it was an underwhelming adventure that failed to live up to the heights of the original trilogy. Ideally, Mangold calling the shots will make Indiana Jones 5 feel fresh and engaging.

Mikkelsen's involvement has made viewers optimistic Indiana Jones 5 will be an entertaining blockbuster. He's become a fan-favorite character actor thanks to a variety of turns in everything from smaller dramas to major tentpoles. Mikkelsen is no stranger to franchise fare, earning praise for performances in Casino Royale, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Doctor Strange, and more. With his acting range, he could easily be the next memorable dastardly Indiana Jones villain or an ally aiding the archeologist on his latest quest. Either way, Mikkelsen will be a great asset to the film, and it'll be exciting to see what he brings to Indiana Jones 5.
