Harrison Ford is injured while shooting an Indiana Jones 5 fight scene, causing the filming schedule to be adjusted. After years of encountering numerous delays and setbacks, Indiana Jones 5 finally started production earlier this month, with Ford once again suiting up as the famous archeologist. Indiana Jones 5 set photos have given audiences a taste of what to expect, teasing potential flashbacks to the World War II era with a digitally de-aged Indiana Jones squaring off against Nazis.

Indiana Jones 5 was first announced back in 2016, eventually getting passed between multiple screenwriters and seeing James Mangold take over for Steven Spielberg as director. Considering everything the project's been through, it was great to see it get back on track, ahead of its July 2022 release date. Unfortunately, just as production was getting underway, there's been another hurdle - this one involving the movie's star.

According to Deadline, Ford suffered a shoulder injury while filming an Indiana Jones 5 fight scene. The filming schedule will be adjusted to work around Ford's recovery. Disney released a statement on the matter, which you can read below:

“In the course of rehearsing for a fight scene, Harrison Ford sustained an injury involving his shoulder. Production will continue while the appropriate course of treatment is evaluated, and the filming schedule will be reconfigured as needed in the coming weeks.”

The extent of Ford's injury is unknown, so it will be interesting to see how Indiana Jones 5 principal photography is impacted. It's a positive sign production isn't being shut down completely, indicating Ford won't be out of commission for an extended period of time. Perhaps he will still be able to work while he undergoes treatment, shooting less physically-demanding scenes that don't require the use of his hurt shoulder. Mangold and company can also focus on scenes that don't involve Ford at all, completing them while they wait for the star to heal. Regardless of what changes have to be made, the creative team seems hopeful there won't be any further delays.

This isn't the first time Ford's been injured filming one of his legacy sequels. He broke his leg on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which required surgery and rehab before he returned to work. When he returns to Indiana Jones 5, it will be interesting to see if Lucasfilm takes greater precautions to keep the actor safe. Ford has long been a proponent of doing his own stunts and is enthusiastic about his roles, but he's much older now than he was even when he made Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. To ensure Indiana Jones 5 doesn't have to get pushed back even more, it might be smart for Lucasfilm to take extra steps to keep Ford safe and ideally injury-free for the remainder of the production.
