Set photos from Indiana Jones 5 suggest the movie will de-age Harrison Ford with CGI. The iconic adventure movie franchise is returning for one last globe-trotting story after Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull largely left fans wanting a better sendoff for Ford's famous archeologist. Steven Spielberg is not directing the fifth entry in the franchise, though, and passed the reins to the series over to James Mangold.

Indiana Jones 5 recently started filming and brought Ford back to set to play the adventurer once more. It's been a decade since he played the character, and many have questioned how the movie will use its 78-year-old star to potentially wrap up Indy's story. During the early days of production, set photos teased flashbacks to some of his younger adventures. The Indiana Jones 5 photos revealed a Harrison Ford mask being worn by a stunt man during a motorcycle chase action scene. It turns out that this won't be the only way that the movie makes Indiana Jones younger.

New set photos from Indiana Jones 5 were published online by The Daily Mail that reveal Harrison Ford will be de-aged with CGI for portions of the movie. Ford is shown wearing Indiana Jones' signature costume, but the star also has black dots on his face. These dots are traditionally used as reference points for VFX artists so actors can be de-aged in post-production. Check out the photos in the link below:

Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones

It is currently unclear how often Indiana Jones 5 will de-age Harrison Ford and to what extent. Mangold previously teased that the main story of the film takes place in the 1960s, but there are now multiple teases of a younger Indiana Jones being included. The wonders of CGI can allow the movie to take Indy back multiple decades and various points in time if that is what the story calls for. Since all of that work will be done in post-production and the photos don't include any clues about when this scene takes place, Indiana Jones 5 could explore almost any period of time in the adventurer's life.

Now that Indiana Jones 5 has multiple methods to include a younger Harrison Ford, it should be fascinating to see exactly why a younger version of him is needed. The movie could open with a previous adventure of Indiana Jones' that connects to the main story, like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade did. It also can sprinkle in flashbacks to his younger days throughout the movie if that is better for the story. Regardless, it will be fun to see Indiana Jones in his prime again in Indiana Jones 5, so viewers will have to hope that the VFX work is top-notch to make it believable.
