Indiana Jones 5 star Boyd Holbrook shares his reaction to seeing footage of the long-awaited film. The titular character first graced movie screens in 1981 with Raiders of the Lost Ark. It immediately proved popular with critics and fans alike, garnering over $212 million at the box office to make it the year's highest-grossing film. The film spawned two popular sequels in the 80s, with a much-maligned third coming in 2008 with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Although the last film was not well-received, talk of a fifth film started almost immediately.

Originally slated for release in 2019 with Steven Spielberg at the helm, Indiana Jones 5 suffered a myriad of delays and changes, including James Mangold taking over as director. Over the course of his career, Mangold has established himself as one of his era's most accomplished filmmakers, with recent credits that include critically-acclaimed titles like Logan and Ford v. Ferrari. Mangold's involvement with Indiana Jones 5 is exciting, as many viewers are interested to see fresh blood inject new life into the long-running franchise. Based on Holbrook's latest comments, Mangold's delivered a great Indiana Jones installment.

In a recent interview with Men's Health, Holbrook shared his exciting reaction to seeing footage of the upcoming Indiana Jones film. The actor admitted that he saw about a half hour of the film while he was in Los Angeles and called it "badass" while maintaining the "heart" and "grand scale" of the franchise. Read what Holbrook said below.

"I can assure you that it’s going to be badass. I got to see like half an hour of it when I went to L.A., and I saw Jim. You know, just look at his work: Ford v Ferrari, it’s gonna be fast, it’s gonna be badass, and it’s gonna have heart. All of his films have this emotional beat in them, but we’ve got this grand scale of Indiana Jones."

Indiana Jones 5

Holbrook's reaction to the Indiana Jones 5 film footage sounds promising. The franchise is known for its scale, from the sweeping deserts of Egypt to the thick jungles of India. Maintaining such a key component of the film series is important to Indiana Jones' identity. However, Holbrook's comments about a strong emotional core is interesting as the franchise hinged more on the adventure of the main characters through riveting elaborate set pieces. The "heart" of the film, as the actor revealed, may imply an emotional send-off to the beloved character.

Although Indiana Jones did not invent the genre of swashbuckling adventurous archeologist, the film did perfect the formula in a way that inspired many popular movies thereafter such as Romancing the Stone with Michael Douglas, King Solomon's Mines with Sharon Stone, and The Mummy (1999) with Brendan Fraser. Holbrook's reactions sound like Mangold's film will cap off the franchise with an entry that may just live up to the original movie. Hopefully, audiences will get to see an Indiana Jones 5 trailer soon, so they can judge some footage for themselves.
