Disney and Pixar's Incredibles 2 'Suit Up' trailer confirms tickets are now on sale. The studios have also announced plans to hold an Incredibles 1 & 2 double feature fan event in IMAX, two days before the sequel hits U.S. theaters. Meanwhile, Regal Cinemas, Alamo Drafthouse, and Cinemark will be handing out special items (posters, Mondo glasses, collectible tickets) to those who see Incredibles 2 during its opening weekend.
Like the first movie, Incredibles 2 was written/directed by Brad Bird and follows the adventures of the super-powered Parr family and their pal Lucius Best, aka. Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson). Incredibles 2 picks up immediately after its predecessor, as Helen, aka. Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) is hired by the government to serve as an advocate for "supers". That leaves it to Bob, aka. Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson), to stay at home and care for their kids, including their now super-powered baby Jack-Jack.
Since it begins right at the end of the first movie, being a superhero is still technically illegal in the Incredibles universe at the start of the sequel. Violet (Sarah Vowell) notes as much in the new Incredibles 2 'Suit Up' trailer, which confirms that tickets for the film are now available for purchase. The sneak peek also spotlights Jack-Jack's various super abilities and further teases the identity of the sequel's (for now) mystery villain. Check the trailer out, above.
For years, Bird said he didn't want Incredibles 2 to be a commentary on how the superhero genre has changed since the first movie came out in 2004. He seems to have made good on that promise too, based on the sequel's trailer footage. Incredibles 2 appears to be a natural progression of the first movie, with its focus on making supers legal again and Bob struggling to adapt to his evolving role as the Parr family's patriarch.
It may have taken (much) longer than many wanted, but Incredibles 2 looks like a solid continuation of its predecessor and far from a cheap sequel meant to cash-in on the first movie's popularity. General audiences clearly feel the same way, as evidenced by the fact that Incredibles 2 is projected for one of Pixar's biggest opening weekends ever. Disney is already having a great year at the box office thanks to Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, so Incredibles 2 will only keep the company's superhero winning streak alive and well.
