The first teaser trailer for Pixar's The Incredibles 2 has arrived, and while the movie itself is said to focus on Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), our first look is firmly focused on the youngest member of the Parr family: baby Jack-Jack. Fans of the original movie will recall that many amusing moments came from the family and the beleaguered babysitter assuming Jack-Jack had no special powers, coming to a head when he saved the entire family with his gifts in the finale. While not fully developed - and certainly not under control - it was revealed to the audience that Jack-Jack had a range of abilities: shapeshifting on a molecular level; self-combustion; phasing; teleportation; and, of course, super strength.

The Incredibles 2 teaser hints at much more than that. In fact, Jack-Jack might well be the most incredible (sorry) superhero of them all. Not bad for a cute baby still in diapers. In just a few short seconds, Jack-Jack shows off his invisibility, then the powerful laser beams coming from his eyes, which burns the logo through the middle resulting in the II being made.

Once he's created the logo, we cut to a scene between father and son, when Bob, now a stay-at-home dad, finally discovers his son has powers. It's an exciting moment, and Jack-Jack gets so overcome that he giggles, then sneezes. And that's when we see more of his powers: the ability to produce fireballs, lightning, and electricity... and Bob doesn't fare well. So how many powers does Jack-Jack have? We've counted 6 on display in the trailer alone. Who knows what else could be to come?

From the official synopsis, it seems as though that scene will come early-on in the movie - if at all (Pixar are notoriously sneaky with teasers). In the movie, Helen (Elastigirl) is now a full-time superhero in the spotlight while the rest of the family - Bob, Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack - are left at home to navigate 'normal life.' However, picking up on that, the synopsis adds, "it’s a tough transition for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby Jack-Jack’s emerging superpowers."

Presumably, then, while the main plot of the Incredibles 2 will be focused on the tensions that come between Bob and Helen owing to the new home dynamic, plus the imminent threat of a new villain, there will still be a key subplot in the form of Jack-Jack using his powers while everyone else is unaware.

The synopsis also states that the family and Frozone must work together again to bring down this new villain. Is this where Jack-Jack will finally come into his own? After all, no one would ever suspect that such a cute child could be capable of so many amazing superpowers.
