Popular streamers and YouTube content creators have begun making changes to the traditional format of Among Us using mods. Sometimes, mods are more niche to a specific kind of audience or content, like Socksfor1's 100 Players Mod. Others, like mods that introduce the roles of Doctor, Sheriff, or spy, can be more universally applicable to any play style. Some mods are also only exclusives for the content creators who make or commission them until other fans develop and code their own public version. Because Among Us currently only supports the classic game mode, members of the community have found new ways to add to the game. Creator SSundee introduced a new mod to a game with his friends that allows the Impostor to disguise themselves as a dead body.

The rest of the game works the same way as a classic game of Among Us, allowing Impostors to sabotage and kill crewmates and having crewmates and ghosts complete tasks. However, Impostors get an extra button on the left side of their screen called Morph. This allows them to transform into a dead body, including all the same animations, usually right after making a kill. This can be both good and risky for Impostors. Sometimes, crewmates will easily be able to figure out who is missing and, by process of elimination, more easily eject the Impostor. Like most other mods and game modes, the Play Dead mod introduces a new challenge, this time for Impostors to overcome. Here's how to use the Play Dead mod in Among Us.

How to Use the Play Dead Mod in Among Us

At the time of writing, the only people who have access to the Play Dead mod are SSundee and his friends. There has not yet been a public file released for other players to download to their game. However, because it is still very new, there is always a chance talented modders will create their own version of the idea that can be shared with other fans later.

An Impostor can Morph into a dead body at any time. Each time, their skin will change to a different, randomized color to help better camouflage them. The most effective time to transform is after making a kill. Ideally, a single crewmate or pair of crewmates will stumble upon the bodies and report. Then, an Impostor can give their best alibi. As soon as the Impostor tries to report a dead body or perform an act of sabotage, they will be forced back into their true form, so it is best to avoid doing this near crewmates.

There are a lot of ways for this strategy to backfire. Most commonly, crewmates will all gather around the two bodies to trap the Impostor into revealing themselves if the Impostor disguises themselves too close to the scene of the crime. By process of elimination from who is not present, the crewmates can figure out the identity of the two bodies. Then, when someone reports to call a meeting, whoever is not listed as dead must be one of the Impostors. Additionally, if players refuse to report the dead body and keep running around the map to complete tasks or take stock of who is still alive, the Impostor can become trapped and be found out.

Players can see this mod in action by checking out SSundee's video below:

The mod works fairly well with the Proximity Voice Chat mod installed, but, as players can see from SSundee's attempt at playing Impostor while disguised as a dead body, players will need to be absolutely sure to mute themselves. Otherwise, they risk easily giving themselves away.
