Immortals Fenyx Rising is the latest open-world adventure from Ubisoft, taking players to a colorful world of Greek Mythology. It certainly bears similarities to Ubisoft's other big franchise, Assassin's Creed, but with a lot more tongue-in-cheek humor.

Of course, there's a bigger comparison to draw with Immortals and Breath of the Wild, as the two have been put against each other ever since Ubisoft's announcement. It's easy to see why, as Immortals Fenyx Rising has clearly drawn inspiration from Nintendo's massive open-world title.

There are a wealth of similarities between Breath of the Wild and Immortals, from the general aesthetic to the main gameplay loop. Here's everything that Immortals Fenyx Rising copies from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

A Massive World With Different Regions

Breath of the Wild's world was split up into eight different regions, most of which sported distinct biomes. Immortals structures its world exactly the same, with seven different biomes that split up the world, each of which represents the realm of a different Greek god. At the center of the world is the Gates of Tartoros circle by malevolent red energy, just like Hyrule Castle in Breath of the Wild. The two worlds are obviously different in terms of basic layout and design, but it's clear that Immortals took inspiration from the way Breath of the Wild set up its open-world.

Far Sight and Unveiling the Map

While it's not exactly like Breath of the Wild, Immortals uses a very similar system to remove the fog of war and highlight points of interest. In Breath of the Wild players need to climb towers dotted throughout the world, and at the top, they'll reveal a part of the map. From there, players can use the Sheikah Slate to highlight points of interest and mark them on the map. Immortals works similarly as players need to climb statues that let them remove the fog of war, although Assassin's Creed does something similar. An ability called Far Sight lets players highlight all the points of interest, but they can use it at any time.

Daedalus' Wings and Climbing Stamina

There's a lot of gliding that happens in Breath of the Wild, and Immortals took that to heart. The item Daedalus' Wings works exactly like the paraglider in Breath of the Wild, letting players traverse the world faster by jumping off of heights and gliding long distances. Immortals takes more than one page from Zelda with traversal, as climbing works the same as well. Players can climb virtually any object in Immortals but a stamina gauge dictates how long players can grip. Stamina can be upgraded by collecting Zeus' Lightning Bolts, similarly to how Goddess Orbs work in Breath of the Wild.

Physics-Based Puzzles

One of the big innovations of Breath of the Wild was the brilliant physics-based puzzles that made up the game. Runes like Magnesis and Cryonius added a huge amount of diversity and puzzles were dynamic, oftentimes not having one solution. Physics-based puzzles also make up a large amount of Immortal's gameplay, and Fenyx has abilities like Herakles' Strength that lets them telepathically lift and move items. Just like with Breath of the Wild, players should go into Immortals expecting to encounter a lot of puzzles.

Vaults are Basically BOTW's Shrines

To go along with a large focus on puzzle-solving, Immortals has over 60 Vaults scattered throughout the world. These Vaults contain a series of platforming and/or combat challenges, with valuable rewards at the end. The Vaults serve the same function as Breath of the Wild's shrines, even if the content in them is different.

Mounts and Taming Wild Horses

While it might be easier to glide around the world of Immortals, the game also features tons of different mounts. Fenyx can tame a variety of different horses and mounts, including the mythical Pegasus. Again, this works almost exactly like Breath of the Wild, as Fenyx has to sneak up on a horse and surprise it to tame it.

Mini-Bosses Scattered Throughout the World

Breath of the Wild didn't feature traditional dungeons like other Zelda games, and only features a handful of proper boss fights. What it did feature, however, was a variety of powerful enemies that worked as minibosses, like Hinox and Lynels. Immortals does have traditional bosses, but it also has minibosses scattered throughout the world, which are typically just powered-up versions of regular enemies. Like Breath of the Wild, this adds a bit more danger as players are wandering about the Greek world.

Immortals: Fenyx Rising is currently available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Google Stadia.
