Ubisoft's new game Immortals: Fenyx Rising had one more unintentional showcase on the Microsoft Store earlier this week ahead of its official reveal at the next Ubisoft Forward digital event. Originally revealed as Gods & Monsters at E3 2019, this project from the makers of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey was pitched as an open-world adventure based on Greek mythology.

Ubisoft has at least confirmed that the game is now going by a new name - Immortals: Fenyx Rising. It will get a full re-reveal at the September 10th Ubisoft Forward event. The game will sit alongside other big Ubisoft releases for this fall, including Watch Dogs Legion and further content for Hyper Scape. The hour-long preshow will also bring news regarding Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Brawlhalla. Other games that Ubisoft could mention include Far Cry 6Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and the recently unveiled Just Dance 2021. Viewers of the event will get in-game rewards for Rainbow Six SiegeFor Honor, Hyper Scape, and Watch Dogs Legion as long as they're logged into their Ubisoft account.

For those who want a head start on the announcements, Microsoft offered up a sneak peek at Immortals: Fenyx Rising on the Microsoft Store yesterday. Although the page was only up briefly, the internet never forgets, as demonstrated by Twitter user Wario64, who posted screenshots from the page as well as a full game description. They give players a more complete look at what Immortals will have to offer when it releases later this year. In fact, the images from the leaked page reveal that the game could be out as soon as December 3rd for current and next-gen consoles.

The Microsoft Store description states that Immortals: Fenyx Rising has players stepping into the sandals of Fenyx, a winged demigod who's on a quest to save the Greek gods. "Iconic" beasts of legend like the Cyclops, Medusa, and Griffins are all depicted in the screenshots, and the description promises an open world that has seven unique regions. Fenyx will fight these foes with "self-guided arrows, telekinesis, and more," with the game's cover art depicting the demigod swoops towards a cyclops with a glowing sword. Those who pre-order the game will apparently get a bonus quest, and the game does not have a confirmed ESRB rating as of yet.

Since Immortals: Fenyx Rising's reveal (as Gods & Monsters), not much has been shown officially. Instead, players have relied on several leaks to learn more about the game. The cartoony art style showcased in those leaks and this latest one sets the game apart from many other Ubisoft releases, which tend toward gritty, real-world settings. Based on the colorful art seen in the leaked store page, it looks like a welcome bit of variety.

Looking at the leaked screenshots and description for Immortals: Fenyx Rising brings two questions to mind. First, what was wrong with Gods & Monsters? It was a striking name that rolled off the tongue whereas the current name looks like video game title soup. Secondly, was this a Kid Icarus game at some point in development? While Fenyx has different hair than Pit, the similarities between this game and the oft-ignored Nintendo franchise are too prominent to ignore. Ubisoft has had a close relationship with Nintendo over the years, but perhaps this pitch was a bridge too far and Ubisoft made the best of it. Either way, the world will see more officially in just a matter of days.
