During an interview with the team behind Immortals: Fenyx Rising it was revealed that the game's environment was built using the same concepts of a theme park. Ubisoft wanted to ensure that the game world wasn't depressing to fans, and instead aimed to deliver something more fun-focused. This interview also covered many other features of the upcoming game like some of the story elements and activities that players can engage in throughout Immortals: Fenyx Rising's world.

Immortals: Fenyx Rising was originally revealed last year at E3 2019 when it was still titled Gods & Monsters. The old name seemed set in stone for quite some time but after some legal disputes with Monster Energy, Ubisoft decided to alter the game's branding to focus more on the protagonist of the game - Fenyx. No matter what name the game has gone by it has generated a lot of buzz over the last several weeks thanks to Ubisoft showcasing the game and allowing media outlets, including us, to get hands-on with it. And its gameplay is favorably being compared to Nintendo's Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild.

During an interview with GamerBraves, Game Director Scott Phillips revealed a lot of new information about Immortals: Fenyx Rising. Phillips said, "Our world was built on the same philosophies as a theme park, creating strong iconic thematizations for all regions and biomes." Basically the idea was to do something like Disney World where each part of the park has a specific theme. Phillips wanted each biome of Immortals: Fenyx Rising's world to be themed after a specific god. For example, Ares' section is a ruined battlefield full of the remnants of war whereas Aphrodite's area resembles more of a paradise.

It was also revealed during this interview that the emphasis on fun extends to the game's storyline as well. While the story does follow the idea of Titans releasing a horde of monsters on the world, Phillips and his team wanted to inject the world with humor. Phillips knows that Greek Myths can be dark, so they wanted to be faithful to that idea. At the same time though the Narrative Designer, Jeffrey Yohalem, acknowledges that these myths could also be hilarious. “At the same time, the game is quite funny, which is also part of the original myths. These were the Greeks’ reality TV shows and soap operas, so they were also a break from everyday life," Yohalem says.

This interview is one of the first times where more in-depth information about the larger ideas Immortals: Fenyx Rising were explained. Knowing a little more about the world design and narrative structure only helps get fans a little more excited about the game going forward. We will have to wait and see how Immortals: Fenyx Rising turns out when it releases in December.
