Ubisoft unveiled a new look at the open-world adventure game, Immortals Fenyx Rising, and the beautiful world looks as if The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (BOTW) has been bathed in Greek Mythology. From gliding to combat to world exploration, the inspiration for Immortals Fenyx Rising becomes more and more apparent.

Previously teased as Gods & Monsters in 2019, Immortals Fenyx Rising is a grand mythological adventure that puts players in control of the hero character, Fenyx. The world in which Immortals Fenyx Rising takes place is built around Greek mythology. The user-created hero must save the gods from evil titans in order to reclaim the Golden Isle. The player's journey is narrated by the titan Prometheus and king of the gods Zeus as they recount the actions Fenyx takes to give a unique perspective on the game's story.

While the storyline may not sound like BOTW's, the gameplay and world it takes place in are strikingly similar to the Switch's debut title. In the 'Game 101' trailer published by Ubisoft, one of the title's developers explains different gameplay mechanics and the world of Immortals Fenyx Rising. The similarities start to emerge as the dev explains the blessings that the player receives after freeing the gods. These powers are similar to the ones granted by the heroes in BOTW after they have been rescued. Not to mention Immortals Fenyx Rising gives players a set of wings they can use to glide around the map freely which is reminiscent of BOTW's paraglider. There are also puzzles scattered throughout the world in which players can solve to improve their powers.

The world is eerily reminiscent of BOTW too, as it was once a peaceful home to the gods that has since been overrun by nefarious monsters. As it turns out, IFR's open-world is divided into multiple different regions which are ruled by a different god in need of the player's help. Comparatively, in BOTW, the world was divided into regions and was threatened by titanous creatures called Divine Beasts – meanwhile, the realms in Ubisoft's game are threatened by titans. And lastly, Immortals Fenyx Rising's trailer shows that Fenyx has the ability to freely climb cliffsides which is an iconic mechanic from BOTW.

That's not to say that Immortals Fenyx Rising doesn't have a ton of its own original features. The combat system is filled with over-the-top action and the abilities the player can use are vastly different from that of BOTW. Those who sunk hundreds of hours into Nintendo's Zelda title should be very excited about this new adventure as it looks spectacular. Sure, Ubisoft titles can be hit-or-miss, but Immortals Fenyx Rising looks like a home run and it's bound to be if it's anything like BOTW.
