Warning: spoilers for X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2022 #1!

As the news of the X-Men's immortality breaks across the galaxy, enemies of Krakoa like the evil Orchis are already planning ways to undermine mutant resurrection as humanity fights to maintain their place as Earth's dominant species. Dr. Stasis - who claims to be the original Mister Sinister - is set on finding ways to capitalize on the new immortal status quo of mutantkind.

The reveal of Dr. Stasis' true identity occurred in X-Men #11 when Cyclops went to confront Stasis after he killed Summers in front of the public, forcing him to take on the identity of Captain Krakoa to preserve the secret of mutant resurrection. Stasis appears different than the Quiet Council's Mister Sinister in one way; he has a club symbol on his head as opposed to Sinister's classic diamond, and he revealed that he believes he is the original Nathaniel Essex and Sinister is just a failed clone who used mutant DNA to make himself relevant.

The reveal of mutant immortality to the world is already having major impacts on Krakoa and all of Earth, with the main crux of the upcoming A.X.E.: Judgment Day event predicated on Druig of the Eternals learning of mutant resurrection. However, in X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2022 #1 - by Gerry Duggan, Russell Dauterman, Kris Anka, C.F. Villa, and Matteo Lolli - an Orchis Protocol Data Page from Doctor Stasis postulates that since all mutants are now capable of being resurrected, any "murder charges against individuals who kill mutants are invalid." Stasis, gleeful in his cruelty, states that there are currently humans in prison for mutant murder who should be freed, because he and Orchis' lawyers believe that the worst a human could be charged with for killing a mutant would be "destruction of property."

This is obviously a truly terrifying precedent to set, seeing as the Marvel Universe has a long, horrible history of humans killing mutants, both individually and as part of the Sentinel program. Yet this is why Orchis is such a devastating and destructive enemy: they are not just villains with an army, but an insidious institution woven throughout the public and private sectors of Earth's society.

While Krakoa and Arakko are attempting to uplift mutantkind above mortality so that they can finally have peace and safety, Orchis is determined to show that the mutants are actually trying to replace humans, and that humans will only survive if they fight back. Stasis states, "It was honestly the most fun I've ever had with attorneys. More soon," clearly hinting that this is not the end of Orchis' attempts to basically decriminalize mutant murder. While many mutants are safely living on either Krakoa or Arakko, there are still plenty of mutants who have chosen to remain in the human world, so Stasis and Orchis' plan to use mutant immortality to their advantage could cause some real harm to the non-assimilated mutants of Earth.

As the ramifications of the X-Men's secret of mutant immortality begins to spread, the mutants of Krakoa and the Quiet Council are going to be met with an increase in hatred and spite from humanity, likely built to a fever pitch by Doctor Stasis and Orchis using mutant resurrection for their own dark agenda.
