Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of season 4 of You on Netflix, which is scheduled for late 2022, or even the beginning of 2023. The first three seasons were a huge success on Netflix, but You is one of those successful, high-rated shows that just isn't for everyone.

Some shows are surprisingly highly rated on fan voting sites like IMDb, but in some cases, fans have expectations through the roof and end up underwhelmed when the show doesn't quite measure up to that. And again, sometimes, viewers just pick up a show that is not their cup of tea and end up disliking it. But one thing is for sure - every show has its critic. Even the highest-rated ones.

Money Heist (8.2)

Reddit user NAMELESSO says: "Money Heist. It's just a big-budget soap opera and un-likable characters. Plus so many plot holes and I didn't see the reason to make the 3rd and 4th season." However, complex and captivating characters were exactly the reason this show became an international success.

This user is right about something - shows are almost always the best in their first and second season, which is interesting because theoretically, this is when they're still finding their footing. But there is just something so organic about the first season of Money Heist, it's no wonder it lured the audience in.

Riverdale (6.7)

This actually does not come as a surprise, because Riverdale has been going downhill for a while, and its rating on IMDb seems to reflect that. But it's still too high for Reddit user PerfictionistReader: "Riverdale, I mean I am on the 1st season but it's fine-ish, I just can't seem to collect the enthusiasm to watch more episodes, it isn't that great."

As much as the show seemed good in its first season with the murder mystery aspect, that's where it ended. It might also be underwhelming for some viewers who expected more because of all the buzz.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine (8.4)

Brooklyn Nine-Nine was a popular sitcom - so popular in fact that when Fox decided to cancel it, the fan outcry was enough to convince NBC to give it two more seasons. Redditor Zoh41b does not agree, claiming that the "humor is cringey and unfunny".

It's interesting, because all sitcoms seem to have a certain level of cringe attached to them, and perhaps it's just a matter of finding to right cringe for each individual. Tons of viewers found B99 hilarious, but there is definitely a ring of truth in their opinion.

Friends (8.9)

Phoebe, Chandler, and Joey sitting on the couch at Monica's living room in Friends

It almost seems a crime to consider Friends overrated, but in actuality, many people dislike this show, and they have good reasons. Many of the people who grew up watching this and consider it their comfort show are aware that the show is problematic at times, but it's definitely funny.

Still, this Redditor isn't convinced: "The only thing about that show that I like are Joey, Chandler, and Ross, but not as much as the other two. Monica is tolerable, but Rachel and Phoebe I dislike. It has some funny moments, I'll give it that, but nothing too outstanding either."

Game Of Thrones (9.2)

Daenerys and her advisers in Game of Thrones

This is another show that appears multiple times in the thread. Reddit user Jiyanna couldn't get past the beginning: "watched the first season (except for the last episode) and it just felt weird and confusing to me. Although I do like fantasy and stuff, but that didn't really come into play yet I suppose".

Game Of Thrones is a show that is very confusing and hard to follow. There are so many complexities and nuances,  it's a real brain exercise. The storyline is also not for everyone, but Game of Thrones inspired many others with its uniqueness and charmed fans into watching till the end. Even if they were sorely disappointed.

NCIS (7.8)

NCIS is one of the most-watched shows on television. With a rating of almost 8 on IMDb, it's also a pretty high-rated procedural. Though Redditor Clutchfluid admits that it's "inexplicably the most popular show on the planet", they cannot help but find it "Absolute drivel".

It's not hard to see this Redditor has a point, because though NCIS is not a bad show, it also hasn't done anything to deserve the accolades it seems to have, and there isn't much to distinguish it from the average procedurals that populate TV screens.

Breaking Bad (9.5)

Walter White standing in the desert in Breaking Bad.

This is another surprising one, but a lot of viewers disliked Breaking Bad. Reddit user zombiemockingbird says they couldn't make it till the end of season 2, claiming they "liked the premise but just didn't like any of the characters or the way it was done."

But just as many people that criticized this show were defending it and calling it a masterpiece, so clearly it won some people over. It had memorable, flawed characters that showcased all their layers, but at the end of the day, it got boring and underwhelming for some people.

You (7.7)

Joe Goldberg turning back to look at something in YOU

Penn Badgley himself is raising awareness that Joe is not a good person, so why is everyone so wild about him? Redditor honestlyidk2000 wonders why: "Idk, maybe I’m too innocent to enjoy that kind of a thing, but I just can’t wrap my head around why girls find Joe hot. That guy’s a sicko and a creep. Idk I just can’t believe people are romanticizing that."

You is a really twisted show with a horrifying plot and a creepy anti-hero. However, it's possible that a large number of viewers aren't romanticizing or condoning Joe's actions, but simply enjoy the complex, memorable storyline, complete with the inner workings of a stalker-murderer. It's also one of the best shows about serial killers, and people are famously drawn to those.

Killing Eve (8.2)

Killing Eve

People are inexplicably drawn to baddies, but the premise of an unapologetic female villain is a somewhat fresh idea and the fans jumped at the premise of Killing Eve (perhaps too enthusiastically). Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer were simply fantastic and gave some of their best performances. But not all fans bought it.

"I just couldn't get through it. I found it incredibly tedious and none of the characters sat well with me," says Redditor pineapplesluut. The show truly was weird to put it nicely, and the beginning was a little slow, which made it hard for some people to get into it.

How I Met Your Mother (8.3)

HIMYM Ted & Barney

Reddit user No_Cardiologist_9440 didn't enjoy How I Met Your Mother. "The characters in HIMYM were so bland. I couldn’t stand them. They were boring and very unlikable. If I had friends like that I probably would have to do drugs."

This is often true in sitcoms due to the fact that they use stereotypes for their characters, which can come across as exaggerated if not done carefully. However, one can hardly describe Barney as boring. But no defense of the show is enough, because even the fan who enjoyed it likely found the ending of How I Met Your Mother horrible.
