Imaginary Friends set photos reveal the first look at Ryan Reynolds and John Krasinski's new movie. When it was first announced in 2019, the star-studded comedy was said to follow a man who can interact with other people's imaginary friends and must stop those who have been forgotten or discarded from turning to the dark side. Reports also indicate the film's premise is about "a child's journey to rediscover their imagination." Previously titled Imaginary Friends, it has since been changed to If, seemingly an acronym for the original title.
Following a fierce bidding war in 2019, Paramount secured the rights to the intriguing project which Krasinski would write, direct, and produce in addition to star in. However, there weren't many updates until two years later when two Killing Eve alum Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Fiona Shaw joined the cast, followed by Steve Carell, Alan Kim, Cailey Fleming, Louis Gossett Jr., and Bobby Moynihan to round out the stellar supporting cast and reunite Carrell and Krasinski for the first time since The Office ended. After Krasinski announced the official start of production late last month, the first look at If is finally here.
If set photos are beginning to surface online via Just Jared and various other outlets. The images show Krasinski and Reynolds preparing to film scenes on the streets of Coney Island. The Deadpool star can also be seen alongside his young co-star, Cailey Fleming, as appear to actually be filming scenes. Check out the If set photos below:
What These Reynolds & Krasinski Set Photos Reveal About If
Unfortunately, these If set photos don't reveal much about the plot or tone of the actual movie. Based on the first few images, it appears Krasinski and Reynolds may have been simply location scouting, but based on the cameras which can be seen in subsequent photos, it appears they are actually filming and Reynolds' long black overcoat is costume. Given the headphones around his neck, Krasinski appears to be directing these scenes and is not actually appearing in them.
Fleming can also be alongside Reynolds in the If set photos, which means she is likely playing the "child" the movie's logline refers to. The young actress already has a bunch of high-profile roles under her belt, including Young Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Kid Sylvie in Loki, and Judith Grimes in The Walking Dead. Now, If should continue Fleming's ascension. While audiences await more information about Imaginary Friends, these set photos and the movie's all-star cast should provide more than enough to get excited about.
