The expanded superhero universe within Image Comics is gearing up for a massive collision in the Supermassive crossover event. Image Comics prides itself on being a creator-owned publisher, with its titles allowing artists on their respective more creative freedom while still all being unified under one banner. Now, a number of those separate stories are coming together for an explosive event that fans won’t want to miss.

Supermassive is being brought to life by many high-profile comic creators, all bringing their various superheroes to the table for the crossover. The one-shot issue will be helmed by writers Kyle Higgins, Ryan Parrott, and Matt Groom with art by Francesco Manna and will be a continuation of Kyle Higgins and Marcelo Costa’s Radiant Black with additional elements fans are sure to enjoy. This new comic won’t be the first time the three writers have worked together on a project, having all been involved in comic series such as Power Rangers and Ultraman in the pasty.

The best part of making comic books is the collaboration,” Higgins said in Image's announcement, “My favorite part is when that collaboration is with your friends. From Power Rangers to Ultraman, Mat, Ryan and I have done quite a bit of world building together.” While Higgins reflects on his past work with his fellow writers, he also expresses his excitement for Image Comics' crossover event and says it is unlike anything that has come before it, which he says feels like a "warm-up" to Supermassive. “[T]here’s a reason we’re calling this Supermassive," Higgins says. "Thirty years ago, Image changed the superhero game. This February, we’re excited to help kick off the next stage of where creator owned superheroes can go.” Here's a look at some of the impressive preview art for the event:

While Supermassive will be a stunning achievement, it isn’t the only new book fans can expect from Image Comics in the coming months. Along with the announcement of Supermassive, Image also alerted fans to an upcoming ongoing series, Rogue Sun, as the titular character will make his first appearance in the Supermassive crossover ahead of the new series. Rogue Sun will be helmed by Mighty Morphin, Power Rangers, and Dead Day writer Ryan Parrott with art by Abel and Chirs O’Halloran. This new series is teased as being a supernatural murder mystery that explores the complicated bond of father and son while cementing itself securely within the ever-expanding Image Comics Universe.

From Supermassive to Rogue Sun, Image Comics fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming months. The plot of Supermassive hasn’t officially been released other than the fact it will have strong ties to Radiant Black and introduce the character Rogue Sun. Image Comics' one-shot Supermassive will be available in print and on digital platforms on February 2, and Rogue Sun will follow on February 16.
