Frozen's Idina Menzel is opening up on how she felt after John Travolta famously mispronounced her name at the 2014 Oscars. The Tony Award-winner is one of the most accomplished Broadway actors today, having performed in critically acclaimed stage plays including Rent and Wicked. Outside theater, Menzel had a recurring guest role in the hit musical series Glee and appeared in movies such as Enchanted and Ask the Dust.

In 2013, Menzel voiced Elsa for Disney's Frozen and sang its iconic theme song "Let it Go." The song became an anthem for children worldwide, reaching number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also won Best Original Song at the 2014 Academy Awards, in which Menzel performed live. Before her performance, actor John Travolta incorrectly introduced Menzel as "Adele Dazeem," a blunder that would result in hilarious internet memes and is still remembered many years later.

While guesting in James Corden's Carpool Karaoke segment to promote her latest movie, Cinderella, Menzel recalled how she felt after Travolta botched her name before her all-important Oscar performance. It can be remembered that while introducing her at the 2014 Academy Awards, Travolta blurted out "Adele Dazeem" instead, much to the confusion of the audience both at the venue and those who were watching the ceremony from their screens. According to the 50-year-old actress, she "felt really sorry" for herself at first because it was her debut performance at the Academy Awards. However, she needed to pull herself together quickly and sing in front of the live audience. Read her comments below:

At first, I felt really sorry for myself. Like, ‘Meryl Streep’s out there. This is my big break and he just f****d up my name. And then eight seconds later the band starts, and I’m like, ‘Get your shit together. Come on. This is your moment. Stop worrying about that he messed up your name. Sing, b***h.'

Menzel proved she was a true professional as she went on to give a stellar performance of "Let it Go." Despite Travolta's flub, Menzel insisted that she harbors no feelings against him. In fact, she stated that the actor has since reached out to her many times through email and sent flowers to apologize. While others may feel offended if someone screwed up their introduction, Menzel called the whole incident "the best thing that ever happened" to her career. Her Cinderella co-star Billy Porter chimed in to agree, saying that the Broadway star became an overnight household name because of Travolta's mix-up.

While Menzel's Oscar debut wasn't what she imagined, Travolta's hilarious blunder ultimately worked out in her favor. Because of it, she gained fans who weren't initially familiar with her theater work. Now, the talented singer/actress is one of the few stage actors to have successfully transitioned into mainstream TV and film. She reprised her role as Elsa in 2019's Frozen II and then returned to the Oscars stage a year later to perform the sequel's theme song, "Into the Unknown." She's also set to star in Disney's Disenchantedthe sequel to the 2007 movie musical, Enchanted. Indeed, Menzel has set an example on how to keep calm, carry on, and make the best out of an embarrassing situation.
