There isn't a lot of overlap between the MCU and iconic video game characters, other than the fact that they symbolize their respective medium's perhaps understandable reliance on big tent pole franchises. In truth, there isn't anything wrong with that, in fact, they allow their creators to take more risks with separate projects. And, it's hard to deny that both big-name video games and blockbuster movies have a lot of hidden depths and are extremely entertaining.

Surprisingly, quite a few video game characters have a counterpart in the annals of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So without further ado, here is a look at some of the most beloved video game characters and the characters from the MCU who they very much resemble.

Alice & Scarlet Witch (American McGee's Alice)

Alice from American McGee's Alice and Scarlet Witch from WandaVision.

If a fan were to go by the movies alone, they wouldn't be able to find much evidence that Alice from American McGee's Alice and Scarlet Witch were similar. That is, until the very recently concluded WandaVision is taken into account.

Both are about women who are battling grief that have found themselves in imaginary worlds that end up not being as friendly as first thought. With Wanda, its Westview, while with Alice, its Wonderland.

Michael De Santa & The Vulture (Grand Theft Auto V)

Michael De Santa from GTA V and The Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Michael De Sana, one of three playable characters from Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto V, would probably get along with The Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming. After all, both have very similar histories.

Vulture and Michael are both fairly older gentlemen who came from humble beginnings who use crime to provide their families a better life. Michael's style of crime is a bit less flashy, but otherwise, the characters are quite similar.

Sir Daniel Fortesque & Thor (MediEvil)

Sir Dan from MediEvil and Thor from the Thor movies.

Visually, Thor and Sir Daniel Fortesque have very little in common, as while Thor is quite easy on the eyes, Sir Daniel is...a different matter. But in truth, both are noble heroes who were less noble in their lives before they became heroes.

Thor was the pompous heir to the throne of Asgard who was banished to Midgard after proving how unworthy of the throne he truly was. Meanwhile, MediEvil's protagonist more or less conned his way into becoming the King's champion, only to be humbled when he was the first killed in a battle with the wizard Zarok, with his post-resurrection journey being one of redemption.

Jax Briggs & War Machine (Mortal Kombat)

Jax from Mortal Kombat and War Machine from the MCU.

This one is a no-brainer as both Jax Briggs from Mortal Kombat and War Machine are both men who work for the military. However, there is a certain event in War Machine's life that furthers his connection with the famous Kombatant.

In Captain America: Civil War, War Machine's armor is accidentally damaged by The Vision, sending him plummeting into the ground, which paralyzes him. He is then given bionic supports for his legs, mirroring how Jax's arms were destroyed by Ermac, only to be replaced by robot arms.

Agent 47 & The Winter Soldier (Hitman)

Agent 47 from Hitman and Winter Soldier from the Captain America series.

Agent 47, the "hero" of the Hitman series, is a stone-faced killer employed by an agency of dubious morality. Meanwhile, The Winter Soldier, one of the villains of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, is a stone-faced killer employed by an agency of dubious morality.

In Hitman: Absolution, Agent 47 turns on the organization he used to kill for due to the heroic actions of his handler Diana Burnwood. Similarly, The Winter Soldier rejects the brainwashing that Hydra subjected him to because of the actions of his former friend Captain America.

Yoshi & Groot (Super Mario)

Super Mario's Yoshi and Guardians of The Galaxy's Groot.

Yoshi and Groot are two characters who are super adorable and who follow the lead of a far hairier individual. Both characters manage to convey a lot despite neither of them being known for their conversation skills.

Both are known for uttering a single phrase that can convey a whole lot of meaning, with both phrases containing their names. Yoshi can only say his own name, while the more verbose Groot is able to say "I am Groot."

Nathan Drake & Spider-Man (Uncharted)

Nathan Drake from Uncharted 3 and Spider-Man from Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Nathan Drake and Spider-Man have a lot in common, and not just that they're both played by Tom Holland. While Nate tends to be more murderous and underhanded than Spidey (that is unless the comics are taken into account), but their core characters are very similar.

Drake and Peter Parker are both underdogs with things rarely, if ever going right for them. Also, both look up to an older man with a wry wit and some killer facial hair. For Spider-Man, it's Tony Stark, while for Drake, it's Victor Sullivan.

Conker The Squirrel & Rocket Raccoon (Conker's Bad Fur Day)

Conker from Conker's Bad Fur Day and Rocket Racoon from Avengers: Endgame.

Both Rocket and Conker may seem cute at first glance, but dig any deeper and a far darker character will be found. Conker's Bad Fur Day sparked a litany of acclaim as well controversy upon its release, as it was a South Park-esque raunchy comedy masquerading as a typical cutesy N64 platformer.

Rocket is very similar to Conker, with both being fond of swearing, alcohol, and weaponry. Also, Conker's ability to find solutions to his problems via pressure-sensitive pads is similar to how Rocket Raccoon loves to craft wonderfully absurd weapons.

Link from Ocarina of Time and Captain America from Age of Ultron.

Link from The Legend of Zelda is one of the single most recognizable video game characters of all time, with only the likes of Mario and Sonic rivaling his popularity. While Link's mute nature means he can't deliver overly-patriotic speeches, he shares a lot of similarities to Captain America.

In Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link is sent into the future to save the world, much like how Captain America was frozen and brought back years into the future to save the world once again. Both are legends and beacons of hope in a dark, dark world.

Kratos & Drax The Destroyer (God Of War)

Drax The Destroyer from Guardians of The Galaxy and Kratos from God of War.

While Guardians of The Galaxy itself was a surprise hit, Drax The Destroyer was one of the biggest surprises of the movie. The overly serious, super-literal murder machine was not only one of the funniest characters in the movie, he also is basically Kratos' MCU doppelgänger.

In particular, the Kratos from the David Jaffe era, with both early Kratos and Drax being humorless madmen that wish to slaughter malevolent gods who are responsible for the murders of their families. They both tend to look before they leap, but both have also mellowed as soon as they found new families.
